Bey Beys Italian Ice | Application Preview
Bey Beys Italian Ice is seeking government grants to fund various operational costs, including machinery, supplies, rent, payroll, and transportation for their seasonal business running from May to November. The company's business plan involves gradually expanding to franchise opportunities in the southern states, aiming to stimulate economic growth by launching more small Italian ice vending businesses. They plan to capitalize on the product’s packaging to place it in vending machines at travel stops, supermarkets, and non-food stores.
The rationale for the funding request is based on the success of Italian ice, also known as water ice, in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas, which have a limited selling season of 5-6 months. In contrast, the southern market has a longer sales window, primarily dominated by snow balls. By establishing a warehouse where others can purchase their product, Bey Beys aims to replicate the northern success with better returns due to the product's novelty in the region.
In terms of competition, while Philadelphia Ice is available through Restaurant Depot and some snow ball vending businesses, they highlight a lack of serious efforts to expand this market in the south. Their competitive advantage lies in the superior quality of their Italian ice, backed by a proven production method that has thrived in northern states and independent locations nationwide, making this a promising time to launch a significant initiative in the south.

Business Plan
Starting slow, we would like to become a franchise type business to people in the southern states so that it can create economic growth and start more small Italian ice vending businesses. Also, because it is packaged, we can begin placing the items in vending machine in Travel stops, by supermarkets and non food stores where soda stand. In Philadelphia and the tri-state area, Italian Ice (we call it water ice) is very successful. Those states only have a 5-6 month selling window, while the south, who only has snow balls has a much longer season. By creating this warehouse, where others can purchase we can create the same type of model as the northern states with a better rate of return for longevity and newness of the product in the south.

Self Identified Competition
Although Philadelphia Ice is sold in Restaurant Depot (we are in fact using them ourselves) and the occasional Snow Ball vending business, there are very few people that are trying to expand it like up north. The quality of the product, hands down. The Italian Ice process is a proven method, of successful businesses all across the northern states and various independent locations across the country. It's a good time to start it big in the south.
