Elemental Journeys | Application Preview
Elemental Journeys is seeking government grants to enhance mental health services in rural areas. The funding will be used for various purposes, including acquiring a confidential office space to meet with clients, purchasing a company car for travel related to trainings and recruitment, investing in specialized mental health trainings, providing quality play therapy supplies, and marketing efforts aimed at attracting more mental health professionals to rural regions.
The business plan focuses on recruiting mental health professionals from universities, encouraging them to relocate to rural areas where their services are desperately needed. The goal is to build a group practice that fosters collaboration among trusted professionals and addresses the rising demand for therapy services in small communities.
The grant funding is vital because rural areas often face significant barriers to accessing quality mental health care. The applicant emphasizes a strong commitment to giving back to the community and notes that investments in their efforts will lead to broader access to essential mental health services.
The applicant asserts that there is no competition, as the demand for mental health professionals in rural areas far exceeds the available supply. Their unique competitive advantage comes from being a first-generation Latina professional in the mental health field who is bilingual, thus better serving underserved populations. With specialized training in working with children, there is also a notable lack of providers for this age group in the area.
In summary, the grant will help establish a sustainable mental health practice that meets community needs, fosters professional networks, and enables a more comprehensive approach to providing mental health care in rural settings. The applicant expresses gratitude for any support received, highlighting the importance of community collaboration in making a positive impact.

Business Plan
I plan to begin doing some recruiting at universities to encourage mental health professionals to consider moving to rural areas to provide services. I would like to eventually expand to a group practice but in order to do so I would need to have other professionals who are willing and interested in moving to a community like mine in order to work and network with other professionals like myself. I would like to have other professionals that I trust that I can refer potential clients to in order to meet the increasing need for therapy services in small communities Small communities should have the ability to have access to quality mental health care. Right now, due to the lack of professionals who are willing to work in rural areas, it is extremely difficult to meet the high needs for mental health services in my area. Investing in me would mean investing in the opportunity to expand mental health services in communities like mine. I credit my amazing, diverse community greatly for molding me into the professional that I am. I feel a great sense of responsibility to give back to the community that gave me so much but I can't help others without the generosity of kind strangers who are willing to help me.

Self Identified Competition
I don't have any competitors as the need for mental health services is constantly increasing. I actually have the opposite issue. There aren't enough mental health professionals interested in practicing in rural areas. I would love to be able to recruit other professionals that I trust so that if I don't have any availability in my schedule, I can feel confident in being able to refer my clients to other therapists that I know and trust. I am a first generation graduate/professional, latina woman in the mental health field offering therapy services in a rural area. I am bilingual so I am able to offer therapy services to an under-served population. The demand for my services has been great because of my ability to offer bilingual services as well as the training and experiences I've had during my time in grad school. Not only do I serve the Hispanic population in my area (as well as surrounding areas), I've had a vast amount of training and experience working with children. It is almost impossible to find private practice clinicians in my area who have the training and desire to work with anyone under the age of 18. Because of this, the demand for my services continues to increase. I recognize I am only one person and therefore, cannot serve all the needs of my community. I would like to have the ability to travel in order to recruit upcoming clinicians to work in my area. This would help my community and would give me the opportunity to network and meet other clinicians. I would love to create long lasting relationships with other professionals that I can entrust and refer potential clients to. I have many ideas to help increase access to quality mental health in rural areas however, money is always the issue. I am so grateful to those who have helped me get to where I am today. It is because of my community of helpers that I can play a small part in making my community a better place. I'd be so grateful and thrilled to be able to share your generosity with the amazing community that helped raise me.
