Julia Michaels Salon | Application Preview
Julia Michaels Salon is applying for government grants to purchase a permanent salon space in downtown Granite Falls after five years of renting. The funding will primarily be used for significant renovations, as commercial spaces are not typically designed for salon use. Securing this space would enable Julia to enhance her community involvement while establishing a stable business.
The plan is to start with three stylists and create room for three more, aiming to fully occupy all stylist chairs within five years. Julia envisions selling locally-sourced hair products and expanding into merchandise like clothing and jewelry. She is committed to contributing to local programs and volunteering in community services.
Julia emphasizes that her salon transcends the typical 'mom and pop' establishment by focusing on giving back to the community. Her business model fosters a sense of connection, where clients enjoy an exceptional experience while knowing their support contributes to local families and initiatives.
Rather than viewing nearby salons as competition, Julia sees larger corporate salons and product distributors as the main competitors. She believes that small businesses offer unique, personalized service that big corporations lack, reinforcing the value of community support. When clients choose her salon, they are directly investing in their community and helping to sustain local livelihoods.

Funding Usage
I am looking to buy my own salon space. I have been renting for almost 5 years and would like to make a permanent purchase. Typically buildings are not built for salon uses so a decent amount of money will be needed for heavy renovations. The space I am looking to purchase is in the downtown area of Granite Falls. To have help in opening a small business in my hometown would give me a jump start to being able to give back to my community. My salon already loves being involved in building up our local community and would love the help to be able to start making a difference in own hometown as soon as possible!

Business Plan
I am starting with 3 stylist and will have the space to grow 3 more. Within 5 years, I would like to have every stylist chair filled, I would like to be using/selling brands of hair product that help my communities economy, brand my salon to start selling other merchandise (clothing, jewelry, etc), and I would like to be involved in community services and giving a regular amount to a local program in need. I do not have your average "mom and pop" salon. When I started my salon I started with the mind set that I would never view it as my own. My salon not only brings in clients to have an amazing experience while they get their hair done but it is a salon that gives back to its' community that helped make me the person I am today. I want investors to know that this salon gives more than beautiful hair, it radiates a passion for its community and never keeps its complete earnings to itself.

Self Identified Competition
I do not typically like to see other salons as competitors. I feel like every salon should thrive in its own way. I may see bigger corporate salons or distributers of salon products as competitors. These big corporate places sell product that has not kept the products integrity in mind and small businesses can not compete with prices. When you support a small business, whether in services or purchasing products, you support your local community and direct families. Bigger corporations do not give a personalized recommendation or experience like my salon does. When people support local businesses, like mine, you see where your money goes. In my salon, people see that their money goes to provide for their stylist family, their money goes back into the community and their money goes towards the growth of the salon to continue to help make their experience better.
