Tara's Tavern | Application Preview
Tara's Tavern is seeking government grants to support its operations and improve its offerings. Currently, the owner faces nearly $24,000 in debt due to prior repairs and high utility costs stemming from the need for building upgrades. The owner, motivated and hardworking, has been running the tavern since May 2021 without drawing a salary, relying solely on her husband's income. The business presently offers only pizza, but an improved kitchen would allow for a more diverse menu that could attract customers from both the local community and surrounding areas.
The application highlights the owner's commitment to the business and her desire to revive the local community spirit through enhanced food offerings. It emphasizes her dedication, working seven days a week and constantly seeking ways to improve. Competitors in nearby towns have successfully expanded their menus and, as a result, their customer base, underscoring the need for Tara’s Tavern to make similar improvements to remain viable.
Tara’s Tavern distinguishes itself through the owner’s deep ties to the community, having worked in the bar since the age of 15. This background fosters trust and familiarity among local patrons. The funding sought would not only alleviate existing debt but also provide a fresh start to realize the owner’s vision for the tavern and contribute positively to the small town's economy.

Funding Usage
As of today I am owing almost $24,000 as I've had to borrow for many of my expenses already. I have had to make extensive repairs, so I am in need of funding/grants to pay those bills off. My utilities are extremely high because my building needs upgrading to save on heat and air conditioning, so funding will be very beneficial for that. I am also needing to update my kitchen so I can start serving other foods. Currently I only have pizza and in a community this small, I have to offer more food items if I am to be profitable. My husband and I live on his income alone, because I haven't been able to pay myself a wage as of yet. I have been open since May 2021 and am willing to work hard to make this business successful. I currently don't have any employees and do all the work myself or with my husband’s help. I think with the improvements I need to make; I can finally be able to make a living while also serving my community in a small town that has very few businesses left.

Business Plan
By finishing my kitchen I will be allowed to offer a menu that is suitable for the community and will also draw business from neighboring communities. I am a hard working motivated young woman who has a lot to offer as the owner. Even though my husband and I own the bussiness together, I am the one who puts my whole heart and soul into this place by working 7 days a week, always looking for ways to improve and build the bussiness to the level I have always dreamed of. If I had the investments that I needed, I could go above and beyond for my community and bring our small town ba to life, like it use to be. With this amount I could pay off my debt and be able to have a fresh start to making my dream become a reality and move forward from there.

Self Identified Competition
LJs on Main Lamberton, Minnesota. She started has a small bar only serving pizzas, but has since expanded her kitchen to offer a full sandwich menu and broasted chicken. Therefor, she draws a lot more customers which also allows her to hire a staff to give the customers the service they require. Backroads Bar & Grill Clements, Minnesota. They also started with pizza only and has vastly improved their business by opening a kitchen. Bruisers Place Revere, Minnesota. They have a very extensive menu that offers anything from breakfast to an evening date night with dinner options as well as sandwiches, appetizers and homemade options. Since the age of 15, I have actually worked in the same bar that I now own, with the previous owners. I started out washing dishes and moved to serving soon after. I love our small community and have dreamed of owning my own bar. Once the opportunity arose for me to buy the same bar I started in, I knew I had to try it and make my dream come true. Because I grew up here, people know me and know I am here to serve them and keep the sense of community and fellowship going. If I can't make the improvements necessary, I don't think my business will survive.
