Deaf and Hearing Communication Team,LLC 917946 | Government Grant Application

Deaf and Hearing Communication Team,LLC | Application Preview

The Deaf and Hearing Communication Team, LLC is seeking government grant funding to cover the costs of becoming certified as a Woman Owned Disabled Veteran business through Select GSR, a GSA contracting firm. This certification will enhance the company's visibility within the government sector, making it easier to secure federal contracts and connect with other Veteran Owned businesses.

The business plan focuses on serving Emergency Services, such as Fire, Police, and EMS, as well as government agencies that engage with Deaf individuals. Over the next five years, the aim is to expand into the private sector, assisting businesses that employ or serve Deaf clients to improve policies and communication strategies.

The rationale for funding approval centers on the unique position of the business, as there are currently no other companies providing similar services. The owner emphasizes the lack of understanding that hearing individuals often have about the Deaf community. Through tailored coaching and consulting, the business seeks to raise awareness around the challenges faced by Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals, particularly in medical and emergency settings. Each session is designed to be interactive, incorporating Deaf coaches and interpreters to facilitate learning and practice.

The company's competitive edge lies in its focused approach to bridging communication gaps, rather than simply offering basic sign language courses. The goal is to create a supportive, engaging environment that fosters understanding between Deaf and hearing communities.

  • Funding Usage

I would like to become Certified through Select GSR , a GSA contracting firm. All funds would go to the cost of becoming a member. By becoming a member and having my business certified as a Woman Owned Disabled Veteran business, my business will have advertising throughout the government and will assist me with federal contracts and the process. This certification will also add my business to a small list of Veteran Owned businesses so it will be more easily found. This would make a positive difference in my business as I am just starting and working through the process.

  • Business Plan

Starting out I am focusing on Emergency Services (Fire, Police, EMS) along with Government agencies that have a Deaf population. In the next 5 years my goal is to expand to businesses with Deaf employees and businesses with Deaf clients/customers to help develop policies that bring understanding about the different needs of the Deaf population and work on communication techniques to bridge the gap between the hearing and Deaf. My business is unique, there is no other company out there. Hearing people do not truly understand about the Deaf community and most people have never met a Deaf or Hard of Hearing person. Through my coaching/consulting, we bring awareness and understanding to the communication and daily life difficulties the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (HOH) experience in life and at work. Each class is designed around the needs of the audience; for example an ambulance would have medical coaching designed around their job with forms developed to quickly communicate with a Deaf patient, proper wording and importance of notifying the hospital of the need of an interpreter. We use Deaf coaches and an interpreter in each course to bring awareness to each group and bring all the coaching techniques together for hands on time to practice what has been learned. ASL (American Sign Language) is not something most people know and is not always needed. Employers with a Deaf employee needs to understand the importance of interpreters and learn when it is appropriate to hire an interpreter. We also coach through how to properly communicate when an interpreter is being used, there are right and wrong ways the hearing community does not know about

  • Self Identified Competition

Upon searching, I have not found any other company that offers these services This is not a Sign Language course or basic awareness...our goal is to bring understanding about the Deaf and Hearing Communities and bridge the communication gap. One of our goals is to make communication less scary and fun
