Always Be Kind 88-3556055 | Government Grant Application

Always Be Kind | Application Preview

Always Be Kind is a newly established 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing financial assistance to cancer patients and their families. The organization aims to address small but impactful issues, such as covering parking fees or co-pays, which can accumulate over time and place an overwhelming strain on families facing cancer treatment.

Initially, the nonprofit will partner with Northwestern Hospital to support their Patient Family Assistance Fund and has plans to extend its services to other hospitals in the future. The requested grant funding will be used to finalize the organization's website and to hire necessary staff to manage operations.

The business model is centered around micro donations facilitated through online fundraising, with endorsements from oncologists at Northwestern Hospital providing credibility. As they grow, Always Be Kind plans to expand its fundraising efforts to include larger events and corporate contributions by the end of the first year.

The founder's personal experience as a cancer survivor fuels their mission and highlights the importance of emotional and financial support during treatment. The nonprofit recognizes the competition primarily focuses on research funding but believes it stands out by addressing the immediate, day-to-day financial strains that families face. By alleviating these costs, Always Be Kind aims to help patients concentrate on their health and overall well-being, promoting the message that kindness can lead to healing.

  • Funding Usage

We are just getting started. Always Be Kind is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded to raise money for and distribute money to cancer patients and their families/caretakers. We intend to solve the seemingly small problem of "hey we need $20 for parking today at the hospital and don't have it" or "we don't have the $70 for our co-pay". Small problems like this build over time and devastate a family. We are working initially with Northwestern Hospital to fund their Patient Family Assistance Fund. But we plan to expand to any hospital we can. The money will be used to finish our web site and to hire staff to manage the business.

  • Business Plan

We are starting our business this month with micro donations from individuals via our web page. We have endorsements already from prominent Oncologists at Northwestern Hospital. After our initial fundraising efforts we plan to expand beyond micro donations to larger events and corporate donations towards the end of year 1 and into year 2. We are solving a real societal problem. I founded this company as a cancer survivor who learned the mental and financial burden of cancer. I was so very fortunate to have love, kindness and resources to get me through to where I am today - in remission. Too many people cannot say the same. When we are successful, we will have raised significant money to help so many families all while spreading the idea that Kindness can help to heal. I'm living proof. The country needs something like this right now.

  • Self Identified Competition

So many competitors are raising money for cancer research. This is critical and it likely saved my life. Our competitors are really anyone trying to solve this problem but we cannot find any that are trying. We are solving the small problem that becomes big over time. Weekly treatments come with incidental costs that can crush a family's budget: $20 for parking, $30 for lunch, $150 for lodging, $50 for gas - EVERY WEEK THROUGHOUT TREATMENT. And this is before you take into consideration the mental strain and fear that cancer brings. We will eliminate part of the financial burden so that the mind can be clear to focus on the fight against cancer. We have already established relationships with the hospitals and are ready to go. We are different in that we have a very specific and very real every day problem that we will solve.
