RL Studios 47-1080547 | Government Grant Application

RL Studios | Application Preview

RL Studios is seeking government grants to enhance its operations and community engagement. The funding will primarily be allocated for upgrading equipment to improve content quality for local mom and pop businesses and for launching a free local newspaper, 'The Brewerytown Bug.' This newspaper aims to spotlight local stories, resources, and connections within the Brewerytown neighborhood, contributing to community awareness and cohesion.

The business plans to expand by hiring additional staff, including photographers, stylists, videographers, copywriters, and administrative personnel. A new studio space is also a consideration to accommodate a broader range of photography options beyond current limitations.

Approval for funding is justified by RL Studios' commitment to supporting minority-owned businesses and its proven track record, having doubled revenue in the past year without any lead generation efforts. The agency emphasizes its strong relationships with clients, who frequently refer their services.

In terms of competition, RL Studios faces agencies like Momentum and Brolik, as well as numerous freelance marketers. Its competitive edge lies in a human-centric marketing approach that focuses on understanding clients' unique needs through thorough research, rather than applying generic marketing tactics. This personalized approach has been successful in showcasing the rich cultures of their clients, particularly illustrated through their work with the Reading Terminal Market, where they highlighted the stories behind the food and its makers.

  • Funding Usage

RL Studios would use a portion of funds to upgrade our equipment to create higher quality content for the mom and pop businesses we serve. Secondly, RL Studios plans to start a local newspaper in the neighborhood our business is located and the owner lives called the "Brewerytown Bug". The grant money would be a huge catalyst for this endeavor. Our goal is to help raise awareness of stories of locals, businesses, and sharing community resources for this up and coming neighborhood.

  • Business Plan

We need to build out our capacity and hire additional staff. This would include: photographers, stylists, videographers, a copywriter, and general admin positions. A second studio or relocating to a new space would also be a future goal, the current square footage is limiting for photography sets. Currently, we are limited to mainly product photography. The creation of our neighborhood newspaper "The Brewerytown Bug" (which would be free to the public) is another project that needs to happen in the upcoming year. Brewerytown (where we are located) has a rich history and is growing everyday. We want this newspaper to be a platform for all neighbors (new and old) to stay connected. We plan on hiring writers directly from the neighborhood and report on topics that help community members. An example would be wellness tips, healthy recipes, financial literacy, etc. Investors should invest with RL Studios because our clients are family and nearly ALL mom and pop businesses/minority owned. We have doubled revenue in the past year with ZERO lead generation. Evidence that our clients are satisfied and trust us enough to constantly refer our services. RL Studios in many ways can be considered as an "underdog" and we LOVE helping other "underdogs" reach more customers through our marketing strategies.

  • Self Identified Competition

I would say agencies like Momentum and Brolik are competitors in additional to the many freelance digital marketers that exist. The biggest advantage is our human-centric approach to marketing. To totally understand a client's marketing needs you need to do the proper R&D. Too many marketing firms pitch a one-size-fits-all approach and market without understanding all stakeholders. The catalyst for RL Studios was Reading Terminal Market. Our video projects captured the "culture" of the market versus the tangible food products. We highlighted WHO was making the food, the families, the generations of stories, etc. We take a similar approach for all clients, digging deeper for an emotional provoking story we can tell in a visually appealing way.
