AMERICAN LEGION POST 0061 NORTON WUORI AMERICAN LEGION POST 0061 NORTON WUORI | Government Grant Application

AMERICAN LEGION POST 0061 NORTON WUORI | Application Preview

The American Legion Post 0061 Norton Wuori is applying for government grants to secure funding for land and materials for a new facility. The current space is inadequate for its growing veteran membership, limiting the ability to host district meetings and new initiatives like the "Be the One" campaign aimed at preventing veteran suicide.

The proposed capacity building will serve multiple purposes, including emergency shelter, offices for the Veteran Administration, and community gathering spaces. Designed as a green energy building, it will feature geo-thermal heating and solar power to minimize its environmental impact.

Approval of funding is essential as the organization has garnered community support for its vision of a large, sustainable facility that can enhance the quality of life in a rural area of approximately 5,000 residents. Currently, there are no competitors as the post is a unique veteran organization dedicated to supporting those in need through volunteer efforts.

  • Business Plan

We have outgrown our current facility . The veteran membership has been stilled by lack of space . We cannot house district meetings for lack of space. New programs such as the " Be the One" campaign, which is a great outreach program to prevent veteran suicide, is difficult to provide. A community minded capacity building would provide space for emergency shelter with backup generator. Offices for Veteran Administration, Senior Services or meeting rooms for local gatherings. A Green Energy building using geo-thermal heating and cooling with backup solar power to lessen environmental footprint. Networking the community for building amenities has brought us a working plan to move forward with this vision for a large capacity, green building for community development. We are working on possibilities for grants with our town officials, of whom approve of this plan, but funds in Maine are limited. Your funding would help establish a facility that could improve the lives of this rural community hub of some 5,000 people.

  • Self Identified Competition

We have no competitors. We are a veteran organization of which we are all " Family". We are non-profit and make a point to help those less fortunate. Totally volunteer to provide any services we can.
