Adventure Discovery Center 75-3006016 | Government Grant Application

Adventure Discovery Center | Application Preview

Adventure Discovery Center is seeking a $30,000 government grant to purchase tablets for classrooms to enhance its new web-based curriculum and to provide salary increases for its staff, whose current wages do not reflect their experience and qualifications. With 30 years of operation, the center aims to make a lasting impact on the children and community it serves. Despite currently operating at about 75% capacity, the center aspires to expand its enrollment and become a licensed state-approved PreK partnership sponsor to offer more free preschool options locally.

The center's commitment to excellence is underscored by its outstanding inspection history, and it prides itself on its experienced, dedicated staff, many of whom have deep ties to the community. Post-pandemic, Adventure Discovery Center has successfully retained quality staff, focusing on inclusivity and meeting the needs of children with mental and physical challenges.

In comparison to local competitors, such as the Irving Independent School District and the Child Care Network, the center offers all-day services and emphasizes local ownership and management. The center's competitive edge lies in its staff's long tenure and strong community connections, fostering a nurturing environment for children. The requested funding will help the center continue to enhance its offerings and support the community more effectively.

  • Funding Usage

I am requesting a $30K grant to cover tablets to use in each classroom to support our new web-based curriculum. The additional funds would be used for salary increases for my staff currently make anywhere from $12 - $14 an hour. This is not compensatory to their experience or qualifications. We are seeking to make a permanent difference for the children in our care and in our community. We are 30 year operators. Our commitment is real and our challenges have never been greater. Thank you for considering our needs.

  • Business Plan

We currently are only at about 75% of our capacity. We would like to reach our full potential on enrollment. We have also considered expanding our center capacity from 78 to 100 based on our finances. But more importantly we are seeking to provide the highest quality preschool and become a licensed state approved PreK partnership sponsor in our center increasing the availability of free preschool in our community. Our strategy is quality, quality, quality. For that I need to be able to retain my qualified staff and hire more in the future. I need $ to do that. We strive for excellence and our Texas state inspection history is literally the best in our area.:) We are very committed and have the vision of what our community needs and how we can be the leaders to provide it. We just need the resources to keep it moving forward. We are 30 year operators and despite the post-pandemic hiring crisis, we have the best qualified and visionary staff we have EVER had. We are an inclusive center and our staff have embraced that challenge and have truly made some exceptional strides in assisting children with mental and physical handicaps. So many happy children and families! As an owner, I dearly want to see that we can do for our community in the future and my hope is that your organization would want to be a part of investing in this purpose.

  • Self Identified Competition

The Irving Independent School District - continues year after year to add more services but they are limited to a short 3 hour program. We can provide ALL DAY services to parents so they can work. Child Care Network - Has a brand new facility. Our advantage is that we are locally owned and managed by Irvingites. We have staff who have grown up in this center and then came back to work here! We have multi-generational families who have used our services. Our staff tenure goes from 2 years to nearly 31 years. No newbies. Our staff is also very loving to the children. In an age when teachers are leaving by the droves, we are experiencing some of our best times in retention. We strove for excellence and enjoyed a very profitable past but the pandemic has given us new financial challenges as have the quality improvements.
