Boheme Apotheca | Application Preview
Boheme Apotheca is seeking government grant funding to support the hiring of two local employees and to cover essential operational costs such as supplies, rent, utilities, and insurance. The business intends to expand by taking over an adjacent space, which will allow for pop-up shops and DIY workshops for the community.
As a woman-owned small business established in 2018 in downtown Livingston, MT, the owner currently manages all aspects of the shop independently. The desire to hire locally stems from a commitment to not only help the community but also to provide employment opportunities. The aim is to teach employees about retail operations while fostering their own ability to earn income.
In terms of competition, the shop faces peers that also offer locally made products and vintage clothing, but maintains friendly relationships with these businesses. Its competitive advantage lies in its distinctive aesthetic and unique handmade items, most of which are crafted in-store. The owner emphasizes the importance of offering one-of-a-kind products rather than reselling wholesale items. This grant would enable the business to enhance its unique offerings and further establish its presence in the community.

Business Plan
I plan to expand my shop into the space next door and to open it up to our community for pop-up shops and to host DIY workshops for all ages. We would like to gain at least 2 employees to help us grow, purchasing inventory, and to help with general shop upkeep. Over the next 5 years we would like to continue to evolve in our merchandising, and to branch out into setting up at community fairs, farmers markets, and the like. I am a women owned small business owner of a retail shop in downtown Livingston, MT. Established in 2018. I am solely responsible for all matters within my shop, in every aspect, from customer service, to cleaning, to merchandising, purchasing inventory, and doing the paperwork, etc. I don't take much time off or collect a paycheck due to the fact that this is my shop. I have never been able to gain another employee besides just me and occasional help from my husband. I would love to hire locally to help another individual in my community, and to teach them the in's and out's of running a retail shop, and to give them the opportunity to gain revenue for themselves, and families.

Self Identified Competition
My top 3 competitors are other retail shops that carry locally handmade items as well as vintage clothing. These competitors are very much my friends though, so we all carry different artists, and makers and have a sense of different style with our merchandise. Our aesthetic with the other competing retail shops differs in the sense that we are all into different styles, color schemes, and how our shops look, inside and out. As for our handmade items, most are made by my husband and I, in the shop, and we also offer custom work. We love making one of a kind items, and rarely purchase inventory via wholesale, just to resell things. We are one of the more unique shops in town. To receive a grant or a loan would elevate us to continue making and selling these unique wares.
