Glads Floral | Application Preview
Glads Floral is seeking government grants to establish a full-time floral business in Millard. The funding will be used for leasing a commercial space that needs renovations, purchasing a cooler and delivery van, and acquiring essential supplies for startup.
The business plan involves opening a retail location with a floral drive-thru and a small truck for selling flowers at farmers markets and events. The owner aims to increase wedding services as the business gains traction on social media.
The applicant highlights their local ties to Omaha, educational background in Entrepreneurship and Management from the University of Nebraska, and a deep passion for flowers, which signifies their commitment to enhancing life’s significant moments. With experience working in various floral shops, the applicant is determined to grow the business before starting a family in Omaha.
Currently, there are three main competitors: mass-market retailers, flower farms, and other local floral shops. However, the proposed shop aims to differentiate itself by fostering strong customer relationships, ensuring first-time customers become loyal patrons. The goal is to create a vibrant atmosphere where customers return weekly for flowers and plants, and where the shop can host classes and events that engage the community. This focus on personal connection and community involvement sets Glads Floral apart in the competitive landscape.

Business Plan
I plan to open my retail location with a floral drive-thru. I also plan to have a small truck that I can sell flowers out of for farmers markets and different events. I plan to take on more weddings as I grow my social media platform as well. I was born and raised here in Omaha. I graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a degree in Entrepreneurship and Management. I am very passionate about flowers and adding beauty to every day. Flowers are a part of life’s biggest moments from having a child, birthdays, weddings, funerals and so many other big events. I am currently 25 years old and single. I want to start my business and grow it before raising a family here in Omaha. I have worked in floral shops starting in high school. I work at Kearney floral when I attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney and managed a mass market floral shop while finishing my full time degree in Lincoln.

Self Identified Competition
As of now, there are three competitors in the floral industry. The first being mass markets. This is HyVee, Trader Joe’s, Walmart etc. The second is flower farms. We typically see them at farmers markets and a few other events. The third is other small businesses. There are lots of floral shops in Omaha but none near old Millard where I am looking to lease a shop. Mass markets aren’t able to build a connection with their customer. I plan to have a first time customer come in and become a life long customer. I want people to come in weekly and purchase flowers and plants for loved ones and get to know each person that comes into my shop. I want my shop to stand out and be a place where I can host different classes and events and get people in the door by the fun atmosphere.
