Grandpappy's Greens | Application Preview
Grandpappy's Greens is seeking government grants to support its microgreens delivery service. The funding will be used for essential van repairs, estimated at $2,000, as well as for a dual zone air conditioning unit to regulate temperature and humidity in their two growing rooms. The business also requires 3,000 product containers, labels, brochures, seeds, kitchen supplies (such as hairnets, gloves, and certified sanitizer), a full-sized refrigerator, and an automated watering system to ensure plants are cared for while the team focuses on sales. Additionally, they aim to hire a part-time or full-time bookkeeper/accountant.
Over the next five years, Grandpappy's Greens plans to transition from home-based operations to a commercial facility, targeting large food chains like restaurants and grocery stores. The founders are committed to establishing a business that teaches their grandchildren how to run a successful venture, emphasizing the health benefits and profitability of microgreens. They have recently passed their organic certification inspection and expect to receive official certification soon.
Their main competitor is Presque Isle Farms, which is also organic but has a limited selection of microgreens. Grandpappy's Greens believes its competitive edge lies in being solely focused on microgreens, offering a diverse range of products, and leveraging the culinary expertise of the owner to enhance restaurant offerings.

Funding Usage
We are a delivery service and our van is in need of repairs somewhere around $2000.00. We have 2-rooms dedicated to growing. We have baseboard heating, so we cannot install an hvac. We are in need of a dual zone ac unit to be able to maintain our proper temperatures and humidity. 3000 containers of various sizes is needed for our products, as well as printed labels, brochures, seed, kitchen equipment such as hairnets, gloves, sanitizer (certified), storage containers, etc, as well as a full size refrigerator without freezer. Additionally, we will need watering systems that auto-water the plants allowing us to be on the road selling rather than 2-3 waterings, daily that the system can manage. Finally, would be a part-time/full-time bookkeeper/accountant.

Business Plan
In the next five years our plan is to move the business from within the home to a proper, commercial building. Once established, we plan on targeting the largest food chains: restaurants, stores, businesses. This business was founded with one purpose in mind. To create a business that allows our grandchildren to learn how to build and operate a business from home, and then to see it grow beyond the home's ability. Microgreens are the next superfood, and the profit in one single tray is exponential. We have been growing microgreens for ourselves for years and understand the importance they have in helping people find heart-healthy, nutritional foods that will help sustain a healthy lifestyle. Once we developed our business plan, we realized that, if we are going to do this, we must do it our best ability. With that said, before opening our door (officially), we prepared for getting our organic certification. We were just inspected and passed. Within 30-days of passing, we are to receive our certification.

Self Identified Competition
Our only competition is Presque Isle Farms, which is organic, and does have the certification to grow a wide variety of microgreens; however, over the past 5-years, we have seen only one choice: mixed microgreens which are sold intermittently in a local store or two. First and foremost, we are organic. Next, we are solely a microgreens farm and strive to bring the finest microgreens to market. Finally, I have years of culinary experience and a degree in culinary arts. Not only can I sell the restaurants some of the finest microgreens that will increase their bottom dollar by adding them to nearly every meal served, I can also teach them how to pair them with foods, wines, appetizers/desserts, etc.
