Primal Arts Taxidermy 48-6064203 | Government Grant Application

Primal Arts Taxidermy | Application Preview

Primal Arts Taxidermy is applying for government grants to fund an expansion of their business space, as the current shop was not originally designed for commercial use. The additional space will accommodate a gallery for finished work, a holding area for pickups, extra equipment, and more freezers, which are essential for the growing demands of the business.

The expansion will also facilitate the training of new employees or apprentices, allowing the business to handle a wider variety of species. Given the significance of hunting in the local Kansas area, Primal Arts serves a loyal customer base from across the United States, particularly those needing assistance with regulatory laws for transporting trophies. The owners have cultivated strong relationships with military personnel at Fort Riley and emphasize the positive impact small businesses have on community and economic development, especially as both owners are retired military.

Currently, Primal Arts is the only taxidermy service in Manhattan, Kansas, although there is some competition from a well-known local taxidermist, Tom's Taxidermy, which has changed ownership recently. The business sets itself apart through a deep passion for their craft, aiming to create meaningful art pieces that preserve cherished memories for hunters and their families.

  • Funding Usage

The funding requested is for an addition needed for more business space. The shop was not initially built for a business. Therefore, more room is needed as the business grows for gallery/holding for pick up space, additional equipment, and more freezers.

  • Business Plan

With the addition, It will give more space to train an employee or apprentice so that the business can take more species in. Hunting is a big part of this area in Kansas. I have repeating customers from all over the US who come here once if not twice a year for hunting seasons. I assist them within the regulatory laws in transferring their trophy across state lines. I have built relationships with many Soldiers on Fort Riley, active and retired, whom continue to come to me for taxidermy services. My wife and I have both recently retired from the military and believe that small businesses are great for the community and help the overall growth of economic development.

  • Self Identified Competition

I am the only Taxidermist in Manhattan area. However Tom's taxidermy is where I use to take mine. Tom is retired, however I believe his son took over, so the name is well known in the area. I would hope and do believe that all taxidermist have a passion for the same end result. We provide a piece of art that will forever keep the memory for the hunter and families of a certain time and space.
