Courageous Leadership LLC 202311653A9 | Government Grant Application

Courageous Leadership LLC | Application Preview

Courageous Leadership LLC is seeking government grants to enhance its marketing efforts and cover day-to-day business expenses related to software and curricula. The funding will support the creation of promotional videos, marketing strategies, and personal development initiatives.

The business is actively engaged in leadership development and has plans for a marriage retreat targeted at First Responders in early 2024, with the potential for two such retreats annually. The owner is networking with fire chiefs for leadership training and is currently teaching a course on John Maxwell's leadership principles via Zoom. Collaboration with organizations like the Law Enforcement Explorer Post Advisors Association of Colorado and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office is underway to deliver keynote speeches and training classes. Additionally, partnerships are being formed with school administrators to provide leadership and personal growth training for educators.

The application argues for funding approval by highlighting a gap in effective leadership development within law enforcement, where promotions often rely on connections or testing rather than true leadership capabilities. The owner has created mentorship programs in previous roles and has achieved certification as an Executive Director with the John Maxwell Certified Team, allowing for the teaching and coaching of various curricula. Notably, the company's social media presence has grown significantly, indicating engagement and interest.

In terms of competition, a representative from Apex Media Solutions noted a lack of direct competitors offering similar services in the region. While there are other leadership development companies, their missions and values differ from those of Courageous Leadership LLC. The owner believes their unique focus on First Responders within Colorado provides a compelling competitive edge, emphasizing the intrinsic value of developing future leaders rather than merely the financial aspect.

  • Business Plan

I am working with multiple organizations to do leadership development. I am planning a marriage retreat for First Responders for early 2024 and potentially up to 2 per year. I am networking currently with several fire chiefs across the state to do leadership development training. Currently, I am teaching a class through Zoom on The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell. I am working with the board of directors for the Law Enforcement Explorer Post Advisors Association of Colorado (L.E.E.P.A.A.C.) to participate as a keynote speaker for their 2024 youth conference. I also am working with a Sergeant at El Paso County Sheriff's Office to offer a class in July 2023 for the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder's Office which also is the office for the County Commissioners and their staff. I am also working with several school administrators in Colorado Springs to offer classes for teachers for leadership and personal growth. I am also in contact with a Colonel at Air Force Academy High School to speak to the ROTC students at the high school. Through 9 years in law enforcement, I have seen that as a generalization; we do not do a great job of developing leaders. I have worked for 2 different agencies and I have found that many times, the platform for promotion is based upon either "who you know" or "how well can you take a test". I also discovered that the easiest way we can retain staffing is to invest in our people. I developed a mentorship program at my old agency and I have done so again at my current agency. Over the past 6 months, I have obtained the certification as Executive Director with the John Maxwell Certified Team. I am certified to teach, coach, and speak on over 25 various curricula that have been developed by John Maxwell. Within the first several months of inception, my social media presence has reached over 290k people, with currently over 850 followers. My website has had over 11k visits in the past 60 days and is in the 98% of most visited sites through GoDaddy. Within the past 6 months, I have generated a dozen leads and potentially 2-3 current speaking engagements by the end of 2023. I believe with the credibility of my certifications and my law enforcement career, I will be able to develop this business into a profitable business. The most important thing though isn't with my capabilities but in the investment into others. The foundation in leadership development is knowing that it's not about me but it's about others. I know that the ultimate value is in the investment in the development of others and our future leaders.

  • Self Identified Competition

When I spoke to a representative from Apex Media Solutions whom I hired to streamline my website to all 54 search engines and voice recognition software such as Alexa, Bixby, Google, Siri, and Cortana; I was informed that I have no other competitors in the region of my type and expertise. There are many companies that offer leadership development but their mission, vision, and values are very different than mine. Although I know that I am one of many descendants of the John Maxwell Certified Team; I am one of the only that are in Colorado and even fewer that target first responders. I believe that this shows the need for what I am trying to do. The value in developing emerging leaders holds no monetary value but truly is invaluable.
