Swar Katahdins 444982758 | Government Grant Application

Swar Katahdins | Application Preview

Swar Katahdins is seeking government funding to install a grid-tied solar system aimed at eliminating electric costs and boosting business profits. The farm currently raises sheep, consisting of 18 ewes and 5 rams, and plans to expand its flock based on available land. Additionally, the owner has experience with meat quail and intends to establish a USDA-inspected facility to sell wholesale and directly to consumers.

The funding would help lower energy expenses, leading to increased profitability. This, in turn, would enhance tax contributions and support government programs. A profitable venture may also foster opportunities to help other businesses and expand the current operation.

In terms of competition, local homesteaders with sheep or chickens are the primary rivals. However, the business owner believes there are no significant competitors in the quail or sheep meat markets. Recently opened meat shops do not offer these products, indicating a promising opportunity for expansion into that market.

  • Funding Usage

I am requesting funding for a grid-tied solar system to eliminate my electric bill, thus increasing the profit generated from my business.

  • Business Plan

Currently, I am raising sheep and selling their offspring. I currently have 23 sheep, which consist of 18 ewes and five rams. I will continue to expand the number of sheep I have as permitted by the amount of land I have. I have experience with meat quail, for which I have developed a system of raising, butchering, harvesting, and vacuum sealing. I plan to become a USDA-inspected facility for wholesale as well as selling to the public. A grant that will allow me to offset my energy costs will have a direct effect on increasing profits. It will also significantly reduce my carbon footprint. With an increase in profit, there will also be an increase in tax payments from my company, which will contribute to the funding of government programs. An indirect result of a profitable business is opening up opportunities to fund more businesses or expand my current business.

  • Self Identified Competition

My top competitors would be local homesteaders with a flock of sheep or backyard chickens. I have not seen any competitors with an advantage over me. I have very rarely seen businesses selling quail or sheep meat to the public, wholesale, or out of big box stores such as Walmart and Reasor's. I do believe that if I have the funds to expand, I will be able to sell meat on a larger scale. There is a meat shop that recently opened up five miles from my property. They sell cows, pigs, and chickens, but no quail or sheep. There is potential to tap that market locally.
