Fakhoury Academy of Taekwondo 38-1681692 | Government Grant Application

Fakhoury Academy of Taekwondo | Application Preview

Fakhoury Academy of Taekwondo is seeking government grants to purchase land and construct a new 12,000 square foot training facility, as their current 3,500 square foot building is at full capacity and they must turn away prospective students. The academy has been operating since October 1, 2015, and is recognized as the leading Taekwondo school in the area, focusing not just on martial arts but also teaching essential life skills. Their program emphasizes non-violent conflict resolution, although they equip students, especially those at the Black Belt level, with self-defense techniques.

To promote their new facility, the academy plans an extensive marketing campaign that includes mailers with free membership offers, billboard ads, radio promotions, and active engagement on social media platforms like Facebook.

In terms of competition, they face two prominent karate schools that offer various martial arts disciplines but do not have the same number of students or marketing efforts. The academy believes its concentrated approach on Taekwondo makes it more effective in serving the community, providing specialized training that improves students' physical abilities while instilling respect and discipline. One of their notable contributions is offering free classes for special needs students and survivors of domestic violence, setting them apart from competitors. Overall, the funding will help the academy expand its reach and continue its mission of community support and youth development through martial arts training.

  • Business Plan

We have maxed out the number of students we are capable of teaching and are actually having to turn away students because there is no more room for us to train them. We are working on a 3500 square foot building and we are planning on building a 12000 square foot building. Before we open up the new building we will do a good amount of advertising in adjacent towns. Our main advertising will be in mailers sent to strategic neighborhoods giving out a free membership to attract new clients. We will also do billboard advertising and a radio spot upon grand opening. Facebook is a big part of our advertising and we will continue to advertise there and place some adds in Facebook. Fakhoury Academy of Taekwondo has been in business since October 1st of 2015. We are the premier Taekwondo school in our area. Our focus has been not only teaching martial arts but teaching life skills. We teach children and adults to deal with adverse situations without the need for violence. However if a violent situation occurs we have trained our students (Black Belt Level) to defend themselves and render an attacker harmless. Our school is real thing and I have learned how to manage it to create a profit. Approximately 70 percent of the revenue generated now goes to profit which we use personally or put back into the business.

  • Self Identified Competition

The top two competitors we have in our market are Karate schools. They teach karate, Ju Juitsu, wrestling, and weapons. Neither of which have the number of students we have. They don’t market like we do not do they carry the same message we do. We have found that concentrating on one or two disciplines makes us stronger and better able to serve our community. We teach our students from the start of their training to jump high and far. We build leg strength in these people in order to support their carriage and to kick high and fast. Taekwondo translates to “The Way of the Hand and Foot”. We work on kicking and punching drills to build speed and muscle strength. When our students get to a certain level in their training we teach them Hapkido which is joint manipulation. Our students can render an attacker helpless in seconds by positioning the attacker in a painful and helpless position before a fight can start. We teach pressure points on the human body in order to stop signals from going to the brain and this renders the muscles much weaker of an attacker. It allows our students to get out of a situation cleanly and with minimal violence to protect themselves. The biggest difference I see is children are not taught respect for others. Schools are not allowed to discipline children who are rude or violent. They can remove the child for a period of time but have to eventually take them back. We teach the students no matter the age to address the instructors by “Sir or Ma’am”. And answer of “Yeah or Nah” is not acceptable and we are dogmatic about teaching the proper vernacular’s of “Yes Ma’am or Yes Sir or No Ma’am or No Sir”. We encourage this behavior outside of our studio. Saying Yes Sir or Ma’am to your parents , teachers, grocery store clerk, etc… is highly touted and praised by our staff when students do this. We also train special needs students and battered women free of charge. It’s our way of giving back to the community so everyone can enrich their lives. The other schools to my knowledge do not do this.
