The Finer Things ATX | Application Preview
The Finer Things ATX is seeking government grant funding to transform its vision into reality by leasing and establishing a larger salon space designed to create a unique and inviting men's spa experience. The owner, currently operating a one-man salon, aims to build a welcoming environment where men can enjoy a variety of services, including haircuts, color treatments, manicures, pedicures, facials, and massages. The goal is to shift the perception of men's grooming from a basic experience to one that rivals women's spa visits, catering to men of all backgrounds.
The grant will facilitate initial operating costs, allowing the owner to secure a location and cover buildout expenses while ensuring staff are paid fairly from the start. This investment in employee compensation, including benefits and paid time off, is crucial for building a healthy work culture and retaining talent.
The owner emphasizes a strong commitment to community engagement and believes they have a competitive edge through personal connections with clients. Their business is rooted in uplifting experiences that go beyond aesthetics, promoting well-being and building a loyal customer base. The applicant's experience in the salon industry and their determination to succeed underpin their request for funding, aiming to grow the business further in the future. Additionally, a commitment to philanthropy is evident, with plans for charitable events that offer free haircuts to underserved populations.

Funding Usage
I have a plan, I have a few locatoins in mind, I have the contractors, and I have the vision. I simply don't have the funds to make the vision/dream a reality. I would use the grant to not only secure the location, but also build it out to make it a nice, comfortable and welcoming place, but also decorate it to a salon where clients love the atmosphere. I want to pay off the least for a few months so that once the revenue starts coming in I can pay the employees and offer them insurance as well as paid time off. This is essential in paying the staff right off what they deserve to be paid. This is vital and important for not only maintaining a healthy and happy work place but it also helps with workers retention and keeping employees.

Business Plan
I currently own a one man salon inside of the Salon Loft at the Bowie in downtown Austin. I would like funding to lease a larger space, pay for the buildout, supply the furniture and lighting and eventually hire up to 21 employees for that specific location. I plan on taking the typical "men's salon" experience and heightening and elevating it to a mens spa experience. I want a business where men can not only come in and get a haircut, but also get color, both grey coverage as well as highlights if they desire to do so. I want men to feel comfortable with getting a manicure and or pedicure, facials, massages, botox and only the future knows what other spa/salon services. I want this to be a place that married, single, fathers, grandfathers, sons, uncles, gay, straight, and guys from all walks of life to feel comfortable coming and showing not only their own sons, but also other men that they deserve to be pampered too. I would like to build a business where men get to enjoy a similar experience to what women enjoy when going to a spa. I have dreams on making this place such a success that I one day want to open a second and then a third location and after that only God knows how many more. I would like to start focusing solely on males for this first location, fully aware that I am missing out of 50% of the clientele, but then eventually once I work out all of the kinks trying to solely impress men, then I want to zone in on doing something similar, but more spectacular for women and in that business endeavor taking full opportunity to cater to both male and female clients. Investors should invest in me because I am headed for greatness! And this is simply a financial obstacle that is currently in the way of that for now. I plan on this business being known and spoken of if not just all over the sate, but definitely all over Austin. I've worked in salons for several years now and so I've both seen the dos and don'ts when it comes to operating a salon. I want to not only make the space exciting for the clients, but also enjoyable for the workers. Ive noticed that is a key element is not only maintaining a healthy workplace, but also retaining a great staff in order to grow the business. Investors should know that I started this business from nothing just a little over 3 years ago and I have since grown the business to its full capacity with what I can do with it alone. Investors should know that for me failure is not an option and if there is one thing that I do know it is that this business will be a great success.

Self Identified Competition
I am my biggest competition because I refuse to settle. Tell me that it cannot be done and I will work my hardest to prove you wrong! What makes me different from my competitors is that my business literally connects with he community on a daily. We not only make our clients look good, but in our conversations and our encounters with our clients we also make them feel better. As a stylist I believe it is of vital importance to not only make people look good, but also have them walk out of the salon feeling like a better person. This is what keeps our clients coming back. As a stylist I know that it is our job to encourage, inspire, advise (if it is asked for), and simply shed some kindness into the lives of our clients simply because it's free. I also would like to do charity haircut events where maybe a couple times a year we offer free cuts to the homeless or even trims to the children in a shelter.
