Business Plan
I plan to expand plant inventory, expand growing space and have goals to move into a greenhouse. I want to expand the tropical plant scene in southeast Iowa. I have a strong drive and passion to bring unique, uncommon and rare tropical plants to the Southeast Iowa region. My online sales have exceeded my expectations in the first 5 months of 2023 and continue to gain support both online and locally. I have a vision to expand into a tropical themed greenhouse where patrons can come pick out the perfect houseplant. I strive for quality plants and quality soils, even mixing my own tropical soil by hand.

Self Identified Competition
The top three competitors in my area are Stam's Greenhouse and Nursery, Sunnyslope Greenhouse and Nick's Greenhouse & Flower shop. These locations are quite large and popular, drawing regulars every season. The competition is in houseplants specifically. They offer common houseplants that can be found most places, whereas I can offer a more unique, higher quality experience. Bearded Garden is different than the competition in several ways. First, I focus on quality genetics over massive quantities, which provides the customer a much healthier plant. Secondly, I make and maintain my own blend of soil, which promotes healthy root growth compared to the overwatered nature of nurseries or box stores. Lastly, I offer a much wider selection of plants ranging from common to the ultra rare specimens that will never be found within stores.
