Lyla's Cafe 873901421 | Government Grant Application

Lyla's Cafe | Application Preview

Lyla's Cafe is seeking government grants to support various aspects of its operations and improvements following the recent acquisition of the business. Funding will be used to address essential repairs and replacements, including two large freezers, a confection oven, and a new kitchen floor. Since taking over, the cafe has successfully engaged with the community, leading to an increase in customer traffic and the need for additional staff and inventory.

The business plan includes extending operating hours to accommodate evening events and expanding services to local bed and breakfasts and catering opportunities. Lyla's Cafe has established itself as a community hub, hosting events such as local chambers of commerce meetings, coffee gatherings with community leaders, and informal music performances. The cafe also features a Play Room for families and continues the tradition of Andy's Wall, providing free meals for those in need, funded by community contributions.

In terms of competition, the cafe faces three primary competitors: Hook Line Expresso, Pilchuck Expresso, and Convergence Coffee, all of which primarily offer coffee and limited pastries through drive-thru services. Lyla's Cafe differentiates itself by providing a full dining experience with an extensive food and drink menu, including freshly baked pastries and unique offerings like Coffee Flights, which attract customers from considerable distances.

By approving the funding, the cafe can enhance its operations, further embed itself in the community, and continue providing essential services and a welcoming space for all.

  • Funding Usage

I purchased the business but I did not purchase the building. Since taking ownership some of the major appliances have had to be repaired a few times. I have two large freezers and a much used confection oven that sadly will need to be replaced sooner than later. Also, another major repair that will need to be made in the upcoming future s the kitchen requires a new floor. Also we have been promoting ourselves in the community and have been well received. With this growth an increase in staff and in our weekly inventory needs to be funded.

  • Business Plan

With improvements made to the cafe I plan on expanding my hours to include night time events. We are a hub in the community and have hosted local events - this includes Coffee with the Chief, Granite Falls Chamber of Commerce holds their monthly network meetings at the cafe. our local walking clubs stop in for coffee and pastries, many church groups meetup and spend time visiting. We have a customer that brings his guitar and will sit and play at various times. Another service I plan on looking into is offering our menu to local bed and breakfast establishments, coffee shops, and perhaps start catering for various events. We have been well received in the Granite Falls community and feel we have become an integral part of our community's lives. Part of the cafe is the Play Room which allows parents to come in, sit down, enjoy time with family and/or friends while their children play. Also, when purchasing the cafe Andy's Wall was well established, and I continue to offer this. Andy's Wall allows our homeless or people in need to get a free sandwich and coffee with suspended tabs that put on the wall and are bought by local churches and the community. If the wall is empty we refill as needed. We have become a place where people come in to gather and enjoy some amazing food - we are told often that our food is delicious and we have many repeat customers. We are a much needed place in today's world.

  • Self Identified Competition

Our top 3 competitors are: Hook Line Expresso Pilchuck Expresso and Convergence coffee They offer coffee and limited pastries - drive through window We are unique in the fact we offer a dining in option with a full food and drink menu. We also have a pastry case that is filled each day with freshly made scones, danish, muffins, cookies, and sticky buns. Our hot and cold drink menu has so many different choices - one that we recently introduced is Coffee Flights. This has become a very popular event to come in and try - bringing some customers from over an hour drive away.
