1710 Designs & Interiors | Application Preview
1710 Designs & Interiors is seeking government grant funding to enhance its business operations. The funds will be used for various purposes, including marketing efforts, building an online presence, purchasing necessary technology, covering business-related bills, hiring employees, and exploring a storefront in Houston, Texas.
The business owner plans to transition from teaching to fully dedicating her time to interior design. Target markets include 55+ living communities and homeowners in Houston and nearby suburbs, with a focus on effective marketing presentations.
The funding request highlights the significant financial challenges faced by the owner, who became a single mother when her husband was convicted of fraud and incarcerated in 2018. This difficult situation forced her to prioritize raising her children and maintaining her teaching job over the growth of her design business.
In terms of competition, the owner is aware of larger design firms in the area. However, she believes her compassionate approach to client interactions gives her a competitive edge. She focuses on understanding client needs and has built a solid reputation through referrals and strong client support, which has resulted in a high success rate in closing sales.

Business Plan
I plan to leave my full-time job of teaching to focus solely on my interior design business, 1710 designs and interiors. I am planning on marketing presentations to 55+ living communities, and homeowners in Houston Texas and surrounding suburbs. Our family suffered a tremendous financial hardship when my husband and father to our four children was indicted and convicted of fraud for his business dealings all while I was raising the family and building a design business. Unfortunately, the design business had to take a backseat when I was left as a single mother with no financial assistance when my husband went to federal prison in 2018 and still has seven more years to serve. This took a toll on our family’s emotional health, and I had to devote all of my time to the family and focus on my teaching job which provided a reliable income.
-
Self Identified Competition
Major design firms surrounding my location. I’ll take a business approach to my client presentations that has been successful for me as I am compassionate, understanding, and listen to clients needs. This has been a successful as I have had referrals from previous clients. I rarely lose a sale as I have strong prior client support.
