Lunaria LLC | Application Preview
Lunaria LLC is seeking government grants to support its early-stage tattoo business by covering rent and acquiring essential supplies and equipment. The funding will significantly enhance marketing efforts to increase visibility in the local community, with a plan to gradually expand outreach.
The business aims to establish a strong portfolio within its first year, allowing potential clients to view the artist’s work before making bookings. Currently, Lunaria operates from a shared, small studio but intends to upgrade to a larger space that can accommodate more clients and eventually serve as a rental space for other local artists. In addition to tattoo services, there are plans to launch an online shop offering art-related products like temporary tattoos and stickers.
The artist's passion for art, rooted in a challenging background that discouraged a creative career, drives the determination to succeed. Although facing competition from larger, established tattoo studios in the area, Lunaria's competitive edge lies in its unique position as one of the few female Asian tattoo artists specializing in fine linework. The artist aims to differentiate her services by learning niche techniques, such as delicate Asian-style lines and watercolor art, which are currently underrepresented in the local market. By providing these specialized styles, Lunaria hopes to carve out a unique identity in the community and fulfill personal and professional aspirations.

Funding Usage
I plan to use the funding towards paying for rent for the business location as well as cover for costs of supplies and necessary equipment to better further my business's success. I am still in the first few months of starting up my business so I want to focus on using this funding to boost my business marketing and promotional use to get more local exposure within my community and slowly branch out.

Business Plan
My plan is to establish a steady, cohesive portfolio within the first year of my business so that new consumers can view and see my work before they contact me for bookings. Currently, I am operating out of a small, single room studio that is shared with another artist, but I would like to slowly expand and branch out to a larger studio space that can cater to more clients and eventually be able to rent out to other local artists to work in. To further my business, besides providing permanent tattoo services, I wanted to also create an online business shop that provides a source of other products that is tattoo or art related, such as temporary tattoo flash sheets or sticker versions of designs that clients are able to purchase. Art has been a passion of mine from a very young age. Regardless of what career I ended up with, I was content as long as it involved being creative and showcasing my passion for the arts. Growing up in a more conservative Asian household, the creative industry was never an option for a career path for me as it was not considered honorable or stable in my parents' point of view, but that mindset just only fueled my determination to strive to work harder towards my goals and dreams. There were several obstacles throughout my life that delayed my progress, but I was very fortunate to have a good support system that encouraged and pushed me to be where I am today. I want to continue working in the field that I love regardless of what the possible outcomes that may be.

Self Identified Competition
Compared to my one-person tiny tattoo studio, I would say my top competitors would be any large-scale tattoo shops or studios in the area that have already established their name and reputation within the community. Some examples of popular shops would be Assassin Tattoo, 713 Tattoo Shop, and Houston Tattoo and Brow Studio. They definitely have more years of experience in the industry under their belt and a large following on their social media or online marketing. I am fortunate to be one of the few female Asian tattoo artists that specializes in fine linework in my community, but I want to improve my skills and add more variation and style to my portfolio that helps me stand out from the crowd. For example, there is a certain niche style that involves water coloring and more delicate Asian style lines that I am very interested in learning and practicing. I noticed within my community, there is no one that provides that specific niche style. It is more popular and available in New York, California, or Asia. If I am able to be the first person in the community in my city to provide such styles for clients, I would definitely feel accomplished with my own dreams.
