CataHome Feline Sanctuary 92-2361579 | Government Grant Application

CataHome Feline Sanctuary | Application Preview

CataHome Feline Sanctuary is seeking government grants to enhance its operations for rescuing and providing care for feral and unadoptable cats. The funding will primarily support building expenses to create a safe shelter, purchase cat food, manage litter and waste disposal, and acquire ancillary supplies, including bedding, bowls, medical supplies, and enrichment items.

The sanctuary aims to document critical information about each cat upon intake, such as capture location, demographic data, and health status. This systematic approach will ease the workload of local humane societies and clinics while addressing multiple issues linked to feral cat populations, including their negative impact on wildlife and potential health risks to humans and domestic animals.

CataHome offers a humane alternative to current programs like the HAWS Project Guardianship, which often releases sterilized cats back into their original environments. Instead, CataHome provides long-term, permanent care for these animals, including sterilization, microchipping, vaccinations, and necessary veterinary care. If a cat is determined to be feral or unadoptable, the sanctuary pledges to care for it throughout its lifetime.

Currently, there are no other facilities in Southeastern Wisconsin dedicated to long-term care of feral cats, giving CataHome a unique position in the region. The sanctuary draws inspiration from successful models such as the Furball Farm Cat Sanctuary in Minnesota and is focused on reducing the overpopulation of feral cats while mitigating their detrimental effects on the environment. With continued support and partnerships, CataHome envisions a sustainable future for all feral and unadoptable homeless cats in Wisconsin.

Upon intake of the cats documentation will be provided capturing several key points: 1) city of capture 2) demographic counts 3) health status. This will alleviate the burden of area Human Societies and clinics. While this and similar programs aid in reducing feral feline populations; they fail to address other important issues associated with feral/unadoptable homeless cats including their negative impact on native bird populations, disease and parasite transmission (rabies, toxoplasmosis), exposure, malnutrition, vehicle collisions involving cats, damage to recreational areas, gardens, landscaping, and nuisance complaints. CataHome Feline Sanctuary is the next logical, humane, and ethical step in the evolution of efforts to manage feral/unadoptable homeless cat populations. Current efforts to manage feral/homeless felines include the HAWS Project Guardianship program. The Project Guardianship program supports the trapping, sterilization, and release of feral/unadoptable homeless cats back to the area from which they came. CataHome Feline Sanctuary provides an alternative to releasing cats back outdoors. CataHome Feline Sanctuary offers feral/unadoptable homeless cats a safe and permanent home. Providing long-term permanent housing and care for the life of the cats is CHFS’s mission! The process is carried out by capturing, sterilizing, microchipping, vaccinating, providing any/all needed veterinary care, and determining the adoptability of the animal. If the cat is deemed feral/unadoptable, CHFS is committed to the eternal care of the cat.

  • Self Identified Competition

Currently there are no other facilities in Southeastern Wisconsin that competes for the long-term care of these animals Modeled after the very successful Furball Farm Cat Sanctuary of MN, CataHome Feline Sanctuary is the first Southeastern Wisconsin feline sanctuary. CataHome Feline Sanctuary is the next logical step in the evolution of current initiatives aimed at reducing feral/homeless cat populations/overpopulation. In addition to addressing population control, CHFS also serves to mitigate the negative environmental impact of feral/homeless cats, reduce disease transmission rates from feral/homeless cats, and improve the overall welfare of both the cats and the community. Through continued partnerships with area humane societies and the support of generous grants, we envision a future that includes sanctuaries available to meet the needs of all of Wisconsin’s feral/unadoptable homeless felines.
