Experience, Strength, Hope, Ownership Responsibili | Application Preview

Experience, Strength, Hope, Ownership Responsibility (ESHORA, INC.) is seeking government funding to develop and implement workforce training programs in medical, dental, business, and in-home healthcare sectors across Luna, Hidalgo, and Grant counties in southwestern New Mexico. The initiative aims to assess local training needs in Year One through community surveys, followed by the creation of training curricula, securing facilities, and hiring independent contractors.

Training will begin in Deming in Year Two, followed by evaluations and additional offerings in Lordsburg and Silver City in subsequent years. The program targets both high school students (with parental consent) and adults, focusing on low-to-middle-income individuals. The final year will culminate in recognition events to celebrate participant achievements, featuring a silent auction for fundraising.

ESHORA’s five-year plan emphasizes community needs assessment, program implementation, and ongoing evaluation for workforce and craft training. It also includes scholarship options for underserved populations in the targeted counties.

The organization positions itself uniquely by providing localized training that addresses community-specific needs, distinguishing itself from larger institutions and distant options that require extensive travel. ESHORA has over 11 years of experience in similar initiatives and aims to uplift local communities, enhance worker standards, and foster creative collaborations among participants. By offering intimate and supportive training environments, ESHORA seeks to change perceptions about southwestern New Mexico and empower its residents through education and skill development.

  • Self Identified Competition

Craft stores and crafters in all three locations are in competition with the craft-making portion of this grant. Trainings of this kind are not usually held in the local area, except occasionally for a few at the local 4-year college, Western New Mexico University at the Deming and Silver City campuses. Persons interested in taking trainings usually are required to travel to Las Cruces, Albuquerque, or other locations throughout New Mexico. Local trainings at the nearest colleges in Las Cruces - New Mexico Sate University or Dona Ana Community College - require travel of greater than 120 miles round trip in the evenings or weekends and include lodging costs, gas and time off from work. Business Skills Institute in Las Cruces offers limited business classes via Zoom, but nothing as specific as ESHORA INC will be offering. Other training courses in the local area center on construction, real estate, and other OSHA-skills trainings. ESHORA, INC. will be the only agency offering these types of specific trainings in the southwestern New Mexico area. ESHORA INC Is different from its competitors because we are working on a smaller scale, will be more intimate and encouraging to or fellow residents of southwestern New Mexico. There is a perception here in this area that southwestern NM is not a favored as the Las Cruces, Albuquerque or Santa Fe areas and residents are willing to work toward improving those perceptions. ESHORA, INC. is here to assist in improving those perceptions.
