Bad Obsession Records 20281169731 | Government Grant Application

Bad Obsession Records | Application Preview

Bad Obsession Records is seeking government grants to support its growth and improve its operations. The funding will primarily be allocated to settle minimal debts, establish a second location, and create 4 to 5 new jobs. It will also cover inventory costs for the new store and maintain a financial balance for its launch.

The business plan outlines a strategy to open a second location within the next year, with plans to launch a third location within five years. This expansion aims to provide greater access to record stores in underserved areas of the state, while funding will also focus on advertising to enhance brand visibility.

Bad Obsession Records has gained recognition as the Best New Store and Best Record Store in Savannah, reflecting a strong customer connection and a thriving vinyl market. Despite facing competition from online megastores, other record stores, and big box retailers, the store distinguishes itself through careful packaging of online orders, a unique shopping environment, and exclusive product offerings.

In addition to retail, the store actively engages with the community by collaborating with a local animal shelter to promote pet adoptions and showcasing local artists by helping them sell their work without taking any commission. This community-focused approach further enhances the store's appeal and strengthens its competitive edge.

  • Business Plan

By opening a second location within the next few months to a year I will grow to be big enough to create 4/5 new jobs. By the five year mark I plan to open a third location. My selection of locations bring record stores to parts of the state that currently don’t have easy access to a brick and mortar record store. Funding will also go towards advertising to continue to grow and expand the brand. While I am the newest record store in Savannah, I have already won Best New Store and Best Record store by Connect Savannah readers. My vision for the record store shopping experience resonates with people. Additionally, vinyl records have outsold CD’s for the first time since 1986. The market for vinyl records is thriving.

  • Self Identified Competition

    1. Online megastores like Amazon. Everyone knows the ease of just clicking to buy something online very easily. 2. Other brick and mortar record stores. All of the locations have their own identity, my store stands apart and I strive to have a selection that others just do not have. 3. Big box stores like Target. They, however, do not carry used vinyl or hard to find records. 1. Online retailers offer the convenience of buying something without leaving your home, however often times these records are thrown in a box or a bag and arrive damaged in some manner to a customers home. We take great care in wrapping all online orders to fully protect albums. Consumers today take great pride in their collections and the condition therein. 2. Local stores all have their own style, the style of my store is unique in that I offer a sanctuary to music lovers. This store, my store, my business, it is the embodiment of my heart and soul. My customers know this and feel this. Other than just the feel, I have many titles and products that other stores don’t have and cannot get because of my exclusive relationships with distributors. 3. Big Box only offer primarily pop records and notable titles - with no used vinyl bargains or true depth in the artists they sell. We do. Additionally - I work with a local animal shelter and feature a dog once a week to try and aid their adoption process. I also feature a local artist of the month in my store where I allow artists to set up and sell their work without me taking a penny from them, rather I pay to advertise their work on social media.
