Mitchell-Hudson INC 2012030200305 | Government Grant Application

Mitchell-Hudson INC | Application Preview

Mitchell-Hudson INC is applying for government grants to support an outreach program focused on aiding homeless individuals living on the streets of LaPorte and Michigan City, Indiana, particularly those barred from shelters due to various circumstances. The organization aims to provide essential items such as socks, blankets, gloves, winter hats, and personal hygiene products like toothbrushes and deodorant.

The business plan outlines a five-year strategy that includes reaching out to the city of LaPorte for information on services outside of shelters, connecting the homeless in Michigan City with discounted bus services, and increasing the distribution of warm clothing and comfort items. By the end of this period, the organization plans to be officially incorporated and establish a storage facility where homeless individuals can access essential supplies.

The grant funding is justified by the urgent need to assist those vulnerable to cold weather, particularly military veterans suffering from PTSD. The applicant has self-funded this effort for over three years and now seeks financial assistance due to increased demand exacerbated by economic challenges.

Mitchell-Hudson INC identifies its service population as distinct from other local organizations, emphasizing that they cater to individuals uncomfortable in shelters. Unlike competitors who primarily provide lodging, Mitchell-Hudson INC focuses on delivering basic necessities directly to individuals in need, often locating them in places like parks or fast-food restaurants. The founder's personal commitment and direct approach offer a unique advantage in addressing the needs of this underserved demographic.

  • Funding Usage

More socks, blankets, gloves, winter hats, toothbrushes, deodorant (men and women), toothpaste and scarves (men and women). Provide services to both LaPorte and Michigan City, IN. This is an outreach program, with the demographic of persons living on the street, because of extenuating circumstances they have been barred from the shelters. Most of the people that I provide for are at least 75% military, suffering from PTSD.

  • Business Plan

Within the next five years, I will contact the city of LaPorte to see what services they offer outside of shelters. For the Michigan City, IN area, I plan on connecting the homeless with discounted bus service. I plan on increasing the number of gloves, socks, caps, and blankets. Within 5 years I would have incorporated under Mitchell-Hudson INC, both homeless communities. Within 5 years I would like to have a storage facility where socks, coats, scarves, blankets, and thermal underwear can be picked up by the homeless. They should invest because I am providing a service to the homeless, especially those who can't go to the shelter, and who live on the street in the coldest months of Indiana weather. Due to the economy of the USA and the fact that a lot of military men and women have issues that prevent them from taking refuge in a safe environment, I feel that I should help. I did this out of my pocket for more than 3 years, even during COVID-19. Now because the population has increased, I need financial help.

  • Self Identified Competition

These people are not competitors because the population that I serve is either barred from the shelter or doesn't feel safe in them. To my knowledge, the competition is specialized in that they offer a place to sleep, but they don't offer the basic needs. They are Keys for Hope, (where they wash their clothes); Salvation Army, Sand Castle, (for men and women with children), Michigan City (HUD) Emergency Housing (Have a waiting list) The difference is I get in my car and locate these people in their element, which is the street or McDonald's, @(8AM) when those that go to the shelters must leave the shelter by a certain time. I don't go out later because I'm handicapped and homeless people are unpredictable.
