Creative Stages NYC EIN: 273907669 | Government Grant Application

Creative Stages NYC | Application Preview

Creative Stages NYC is applying for government grants to address financial challenges exacerbated by COVID-19. The funds will be utilized to settle outstanding bills, pay employees consistently, and enhance their infrastructure.

The organization aims to broaden its educational theater programs across all five boroughs of New York, expanding from its current focus on Manhattan and Brooklyn. By hiring more staff, particularly theater artists, they hope to introduce bilingual programs in underserved areas.

Creative Stages NYC distinguishes itself in arts education through its unique methodology rooted in the Michael Chekhov technique, focusing on full-body expression and collaborative teamwork. Their programs are inclusive, adaptable to various school populations, and cater to students from grades 2-5, ensuring participation regardless of ability. They align their programs with school goals and offer a rich selection of literary works, including pieces by Shakespeare and Homer. Their experience with bilingual students and those with disabilities enhances their effectiveness.

In terms of competition, they recognize organizations like Arts Connection, Marquis Studio, and Dreamyard Project but assert their competitive edge lies in their innovative approach. Their teaching strategy includes a Lecture Demo midway through their residencies, where professional actors perform for students, who then provide direct feedback to shape the performance. This interactive process allows the educators to tailor their teaching methods to best support student needs.

Investors should invest in us because we are very unique and successful in our approach to arts education. Our approach is based on the Michael Chekhov technique of using the entire body, full gestures and choral teams. We work with grades 2-5 and are able to adapt our curriculum to any school population. All students are able to participate, regardless of ability. We offer push-in programming and align with school's goals. We offer a varied catalogue of stories and plays in our library that include Shakespeare and Homer. We have been successful working with bilingual populations and students with disabilities.

  • Self Identified Competition

Arts Connection Marquis Studio Dreamyard Project Our programming is different than our competitors due to the fact that we triangulate our teaching practice. We offer halfway in our residencies a Lecture Demo, where professional actors perform a scene to the students. Students give feedback as Directors to shape and correct the scene using knowledge that they have obtained up to that point in the residency. We access what the students know and don't know. We use this loop to inform our practice as teaching artist and how we can better support the students.
