Le Grande Plant Nursery 86-1530419 | Government Grant Application

Le Grande Plant Nursery | Application Preview

Le Grande Plant Nursery is applying for government grants to enhance its operations and growth potential. The funds will be utilized primarily for upgrading the current greenhouse, allowing for greater inventory capacity and storage solutions. Specifically, they aim to replace and expand the greenhouse at a cost of $1,500 to $3,000, invest $1,000 in shelving, and procure wholesale inventory of plants and supplies estimated at $6,000 to $8,000. Additionally, they intend to renovate an Avion trailer at a projected cost of $15,000 to $18,000 to facilitate further operations. Part of the funding will also go toward covering the manager's salary, enabling complete focus on the nursery’s growth.

The business plan emphasizes establishing a robust online presence and developing a customer base through engaging marketing strategies, such as a raffle for succulent arrangements. They anticipate increased online sales, home deliveries, and personalized consultation services to cater to customer needs. The goal is to open a storefront by spring 2022 and eventually hire more staff to support growth, aiming for a broader vision within five years.

Le Grande Plant Nursery distinguishes itself from competition, including East Side Succulents, Tillery Street Plant Co., Moon Valley Nurseries, and large retailers like Lowe's and Home Depot. They highlight a lack of personal touch in major nurseries and focus on offering a welcoming environment with individualized customer service. Their unique consultations aim to help clients select and maintain the right plants for their living spaces, fostering a connection that goes beyond just selling products. The application articulates a clear vision of infusing personality and care into the local plant buying experience, making a case for the necessity of funding to achieve these dreams.

  • Funding Usage

These funds would allow Le Grande Plant Nursery the ability to hit the ground running quickly. Our budget is rather small and limited at the moment, but that isn't slowing us down. This would give us the chance to dedicate ourselves fully to the task at hand and with the funds to back them. The greenhouse we own could be replaced($1,500-$3,000) and doubled in size giving us that extra bit of space needed to fully stock up. We would be able to afford the shelving($1,000) needed to fill such a space as well as the wholesale inventory; plants, pots, decor, soil, rocks, etc ($6,000-$8,000) to get us moving steadily. These funds would also be put forth to speed up the renovation of the Avion trailer. The Avion Le Grande's renovation costs are estimated to be around $15,000-$18,000 which will include ripping out most of the interior, resealing, new tile flooring, a built-in register, refinish the exterior and a new awning. Lastly, these funds would be used to help cover at least part of my salary alloted to me by my full-time position as a manager for a local coffee shop here in Austin, giving me the opportunity to dedicate all of my time to something I love and watch something I care for flourish.

  • Business Plan

First and foremost we will be tackling our online presence with vigor. Creating a strong customer base will be our goal for the first few months and onward. With a dedication to showing off our product in a pleasing and attractive way, we believe we've got just the eye to showcase exactly what our clients are searching for. We will begin this year by raffling off an arrangement of succulents and cacti, online as well as in local coffee shops and boutiques, receiving information on each person who fills out a ticket so we can begin expanding our customer base. We're hoping this raffle will not only bring in clientele by the thousands, but also surround us with people who are already interested and invested in our product. With that, we plan on seeing an uptick in online sales and home deliveries, as well as an expansion of our personal consultation experience where we walk you through exactly what plants can liven up your space as well as live in it. With steady online growth and an expanding customer base, we're aiming to be able to open our store front in spring of 2022. With that, and the steady increase of sales from online, were hoping to be fortunate enough to start looking into hiring more staff as well as continue the steady progression of building an empire specifically around our clients needs, desires and wishes. Hopefully, with continued success and determination, our dreams of one day owning a true store front can be reached within the next five years. There seems to be a bit of soul lacking in a bunch of the major Plant Nurseries of today. I do believe plants are a representation of the folks purchasing them, and I believe the store where they come from should represent that too. With the bit of love and care we can provide to our clientele, I do believe we can provide them with that special experience that they're looking for. I want to provide people exactly what they need to be able to have, and keep alive, the plants of their dreams. Our personal consultations are unique, providing one-on-one time with the clientele. This gives them the chance to share and explain what they want, their past experiences, as well as their hopes for the future.

  • Self Identified Competition

East Side Succulents and Tillery Street Plant Co- these two nurseries share a space on the east side, providing Austin a place to pick up a range of cacti, succulents, and other plants. Moon Valley Nurseries-specializes in aquatic attractions such as ponds and fountains. Also sells specialty fish such as goldfish and a variety of koi as well. Lowes and Home Depot- large department home renovation stores with a selection of common plants, succulents and cacti. East Side Succulents and Tillery Street Plant Co-this nursery and plant shop provide a wide variety of plants available to the public. While pricey, they attract customers both new and experienced into the trade. The employees tend to be short and unhelpful at times and while thats a small reason, its reason enough to want to provide a place that our clients can feel welcome, appreciated, and accepted. This place has given me great ideas, and a reason to do better and provide our customers with a more personal experience. Moon Valley Nurseries- They provide a unique product, offering water fountains only seen in your dreams and koi and goldfish to fill your ponds to the brim with. With a dedication to aquatic plants, the clientele shopping here usually have things such as ponds, outdoor fish or other types of water features on their property. While such an enjoyment everytime we go, were hoping to provide a bit more plants for the home, shooting for statement plants that are unique and glorious all on their own. Lowes and Home Depot- while not your first thought for a competitor to a nursery, I actually can't thing of a more detrimental competitor to have. Being such a huge corporation, they've got access to larger greenhouses than I could ever dream of. They've got the product, stock, and anything that could be needed. The one they're missing, is soul. While they are easily accessible and widely available, I plan on offering a product with a bit more uniqueness behind it, providing our client with an individualized experience with a knowledgeable staff and plant selections from smaller,, local greenhouses to help make any plant buying experience a breeze.
