Recreational Debut 382377144 | Government Grant Application

Recreational Debut | Application Preview

Recreational Debut is seeking government grants to fund the renovation of six homes designated for homeless and low-income families. The requested funds will go towards repairing homes that are inexpensive yet in significant disrepair, requiring updates such as new flooring, paint, cupboards, toilets, showers, windows, and appliances.

The business plans to complete renovations on these six homes within six months and is committed to upgrading one additional home every three weeks for the following year. They aim to enhance this process by hiring more contractors, ultimately targeting a goal of two home renovations per month. With a pressing need for affordable housing in Grand Rapids, Michigan—where a recent study indicated the need for 5,000 housing units over the next five years—addressing this issue is critical as rising prices are leaving low-income families struggling to find suitable homes.

Recreational Debut has been dedicated to renovating housing for low-income families since 1982, boasting a proven track record of placing hundreds of families in quality homes. They believe in the transformative power of providing decent housing, which not only impacts the living conditions of families but also contributes to children's academic success, improved parental employment prospects, and overall community well-being. The organization champions the idea that low income does not equate to substandard living conditions.

In terms of competition, they recognize organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Hope Community Housing but emphasize their unique approach that combines compassion with business acumen. Led by a director with an MBA, they prioritize efficient resource management to maximize the impact of every dollar spent. While they acknowledge that they cannot meet the needs of every family in the area, they are committed to collaboration with other organizations to collectively improve the landscape of affordable housing and change lives for the better.

  • Business Plan

We plan to renovate six homes in the next six months. After that we plan to renovate one home every three weeks for the next year then speed up the process by hiring additional contractors with a plan of increasing our productivity to 2 homes each month. Our area is in desperate need of affordable housing. A recent study showed that Grand Rapids, Michigan needs 5,000 housing units in the next 5 years to keep up with demand. Prices are going up and low income families are being priced out of the market. We have been renovating houses for homeless and low income families since 1982. We have a proven track record and a system that works. We have place hundreds of families over the years and want to expand our vision. We know how to do it right, make a rundown house into a beautiful home that a family can be proud of. We believe that just because your income is low does not mean that you have to live in squalor. We have seen what nice housing does for families, how it effects everything. The kids get better grades, parents strive for better employment, and dreams are made. Many of the children living in our homes go on to higher education and move out of the poverty bracket. Going home each night to a safe, warm, secure environment changes attitudes, gives hope, and helps dreams come true well beyond the four walls.
