Steel Valley Burner's LLC 4523621 | Government Grant Application

Steel Valley Burner's LLC | Application Preview

Steel Valley Burner's LLC is applying for government funding to purchase a company truck and hire new employees. The core of the business relies on processing and cutting steel, and the owner emphasizes the importance of training new workers. During this training period, employees will be paid hourly until they reach proficiency in cutting steel, which is essential for ensuring their income. Once trained, they will be compensated per ton of steel processed, mirroring the owner's payment structure.

The business plan involves developing a skilled team of at least ten proficient burners who will work in pairs at different locations, optimizing efficiency on job sites. The owner argues for the funding's approval, highlighting the increasing demand for skilled burners in a declining industry, where recycled steel production is on the rise compared to new ore mining. Employees will be hired locally, contributing to the communities they work in by spending on lodging, food, and other services.

In terms of competition, the owner notes that rivals are primarily based in Texas, with language barriers due to a largely Mexican workforce. There is a clear opportunity for growth as local scrap yards struggle to maintain skilled workers and prefer hiring Americans. The owner touts a competitive advantage based on over 20 years of experience, a commitment to safety, and a strong network within the industry, ensuring jobs are completed to a high standard.

  • Funding Usage

I intend on purchasing a company truck. I also need capital to hire/pay new employees. In my business I am payed by the amount of steel I can process/cut. I will need to train new employees. During their training period they will not be able to achieve the amount/weights to earn a decent living. Therefore I will pay them hourly until they are proficient at cutting steel. So until their proficient they won't be profitable to the business. After training they will be payed by me the same way I'm payed by my clients. By the ton.

  • Business Plan

The plan is to train new employees and go through as many as necessary until I have a team of at least 10 proficient Burner's (individual who cuts steel with a oxygen fuel torch). Also to have them divided up into groups of two each working a different location and for a different client. At that point I will ensure all job sites are operating efficiently. I should be funded because I will not fail. This is a dying industry and the demand for qualified Burner's only grows in demand each year. There is more steel/products produced globally from recycled steel than mining for new ore. All employees will be local. If it's a out if state or town job we bring money to whatever community we will be working in. Hotel fees, food, laundry to name a few. This business will also ensure a steady supply if steel for our mills to continue producing.

  • Self Identified Competition

The only competitors in my field are from the state of Texas. Most if not all are Mexican and pose a language barrier. Typically I work in and for established scrap yards who can't keep good burners and would much rather hire local Americans. The room for growth is tremendous. I've been doing this work for over 20 years now. Safety is and always my number 1 priority. I'm very skilled at my job and I have numerous friends in different positions in this industry to call on if I need assistance. I go above and beyond to get the jobs done.
