The Monroe Playcafé N/A | Government Grant Application

The Monroe Playcafé | Application Preview

The Monroe Playcafé is seeking government grants to transform a stable lean-to garage into an indoor/outdoor play café in the Hanover/Licking Valley area. The majority of funding would go towards installing essential utilities such as electrical, water, sewage, and septic systems. Additional costs will cover purchasing toys, climbing structures, swings, and other play equipment for the indoor space.

The proposed café is strategically located near a busy highway and a rapidly growing school district, making it an attractive investment that could benefit local contractors and cater to coffee-loving parents seeking a safe play environment for their children, regardless of weather conditions.

The owner, a local mom of three, shares a personal story about her daughter, Monroe, who was stillborn, highlighting her motivation to create a supportive community space. With professional experience as an operating room nurse since 2014, she is well-connected to potential customers and emphasizes her commitment to making smart financial decisions while reinvesting in her community. Understanding the need for family-friendly activities, especially on her days off, she aims to fill this gap.

Currently, the only competition is Little Arrows Play Café, located in downtown Newark. However, it suffers from limitations in both location and offerings, featuring a basic coffee setup and a restricted range of toys due to reliance on volunteers and insufficient funding.

The owner believes her unique creative vision, demonstrated through her successful home renovations and future plans for a barn conversion into a wedding venue, sets her apart. Her familiarity with design and quality refurbishment makes her a promising candidate for investment, aiming to provide an enriching space for local families.

  • Business Plan

This area is very close to the highway and situated perfectly in very busy, school district experiencing a lot of growth. Would be great local business investment for local contractors to be employed and gets target audience of coffee-loving moms looking for play area for kids on both rainy and sunny days I am a local, married mom of 3 children, 2 living and one in heaven. I recently gave birth at 24 weeks to our first little girl who was stillborn. Her name is Monroe, thus the name for our potential cafe name. It gave me the opportunity to see firsthand the way my local community gave such support and kindness during our time of grief. I am also an Operating room nurse at our local community hospital where I have worked since 2014 and have many connections to target audience of this business opportunity. I have a long history of smart financial decisions and am wanting to reinvest my time and efforts into our local community. I want access for all families searching for a great way to enjoy time with their families. I work 3-12’s each week and know what it’s like to want to fill days off with fun for my children.

  • Self Identified Competition

Little arrows play cafe in downtown Newark. This is the only local, indoor okay cafe and it is always booked for private events and is not in an ideal location for moms in my opinion. They don’t have a true coffee menu, just a keurig, and they have very limited toys and play things because of being run by volunteers and lacking funding. Many local friends and families of mine have called me “the Joanna Gaines of Licking County”. This is largely in part because of our fixer upper house we purchased in licking valley that I have designed and decorated to create increased value and a total transformation therein. I also have future plans to completely renovate and design our old historic barn on our property to a wedding venue and event space someday. I have a vision and side of creativity for design and quality upcycling that make me a worthwhile person to invest in.
