  • Funding Usage

The requested funding will be used for the purchasing of new equipment to further the growth of my business. The initial machines I would like to purchase are a laser engraver, a wide format print, and a large-format plotter. Anything that does not go towards a machine will be used for the purchasing of goods that will be used as print media and to help manage business finances so that I do not fall into debt.

  • Business Plan

My first step is to go business to business and market myself everywhere I can. I would like to get the word out to as many businesses as possible. I have sample pieces of work to show to any potential leads that I hope to turn into clients. On top of that, I participate in pop-up markets to spread awareness of my business to other market vendors and to the community who pass through those events. I have built relationships with a few clients who have a good amount of influence over the community such as a vice president of a local chamber of commerce. I make sure to please that client as he and I have an agreement to help one another out with business as he will help spread my business just as I will provide him with quality affordable goods. Over the course of the first two years, I plan on utilizing those tactics to grow. I intend to obtain a storefront or office space to house any machinery I have purchased within those first two years so that I can then promote the business location. I will then work on establishing a strong presence in the media, community, and anywhere else for others to stop by and observe the new location, in turn increasing leads. Lastly, I plan to go marketing business to business anywhere I can outside of Sacramento to gather clients from outside the county. I plan to create a business that offers local print and design services. The ultimate goal is to become a one-stop shop where I can provide design services for a customer and give them the benefit of printing said design in-house. This is for a couple of reasons. Not all customers understand the print world and dealing with multiple businesses can be difficult and sometimes, very expensive. I want to save my clients some headaches by offering them any possible print services they may need in one go because I can get the files print-ready for them and ensure it is printed correctly and uniform with everything in their order. This in return provides a lot of benefits. It helps build trust and a connection between the client and myself which can lead to longer lasting business relationships. It also helps add more revenue to any orders I would take as offering one service is great but when bundled with others it then becomes an ideal order. It benefits both the client and myself as I get to keep that business all while the client does not have to struggle going between multiple companies to achieve the same end product. I intend to achieve this goal regardless of how long it takes. On my own, it may take a couple of years but with your help, I can speed that process up. I believe you should invest in me because I am hoping that you see my vision of creating a creative workspace that works with the community to help them be seen in their unique way (logos, banners, signs, etc.). Who doesn't love to show off something they are proud of or to be seen? I want to give anyone who walks through my doors that opportunity and with your help I can do exactly that.

  • Self Identified Competition

I think my top 3 competitors wouldn't be any particular place but more so other companies that have been established for a while and offer similar services. Other screen printing shops, design firms, and signage shops. I want to offer all of those services but it will be hard to battle individual companies that have an established base and specialize in those areas. While I may not "specialize" in one particular area, I have worked in each of those areas for years at a time and learned how they operate. I understand how each area manages its orders and how the mechanical side of the production works. I can offer one thing not many of my competitors can, an understanding of every single one of those businesses. One aspect I tend to focus on is educating clients on the print and design world. I don't want them to come into my shop clueless and leave clueless. I want to educate them and explain how design and print work together and why it is so important to create jobs a certain way so that they can go through print production flawlessly. Most print shops see a customer come in and only care about taking in orders to get money and they fail to see them as people. There have been plenty of instances in the past where I took the time to talk with the customer, build a little bit of a relationship with them only for them to turn around and become a lifelong customer because they were so happy to work with me. Another factor that makes me different from my competitors is that I can easily adapt to changes in the production world and am more willing to reach out for help. Every print shop I've worked at refused to get help and always struggled with managing employees. Whether it be that a particular employee did not have the correct training and lacked the ambition to learn themselves or that all employees were overworked and grew to resent their boss. I have seen how dysfunctional the print industry can be and I have worked so hard to help anyone of my previous co-workers to understand their jobs better because understanding something even just a little more than what you knew before can make a big difference. That is what makes me different. I truly care about even the little stuff and have a lot of knowledge to share with everyone.
