VBL Consulting Firm, LLC | Application Preview
VBL Consulting Firm, LLC is seeking government grants to support its initiatives aimed at improving healthcare education and services in underserved communities. The funding will be allocated for essential expenses such as rent, equipment, office supplies, software, and professional training, which supports both the firm’s and its clients' development.
Over the next five years, VBL plans to broaden its service offerings to healthcare professionals, such as pharmacists and nurse practitioners, providing continuing education, leadership coaching, and financial support for certification processes. The firm aims to focus particularly on nonprofit organizations and healthcare facilities that serve LGBTQIA, HIV-positive, and low-income populations in rural and underserved areas. Additionally, there is a goal to engage in public health research to explore disparities in healthcare and educational opportunities for professionals from these communities.
The rationale for supporting this grant application lies in the founder’s personal experiences as a healthcare professional from an underserved background. The founder highlights the lack of resources and opportunities faced by individuals in similar situations during their education. By addressing these gaps and providing necessary support, VBL aims to enhance educational paths and improve healthcare standards in marginalized communities.
In terms of competition, VBL recognizes others in the field such as Genoa Telepsychiatry, Cognotion, and Osmosis, but emphasizes its unique approach. Distinct from these competitors, VBL integrates over 12 years of pharmacy experience and 3 years of public health knowledge into its mission. The focus is not only on patient care but also on equipping healthcare providers and facilities to deliver high-quality services in a synergistic manner, ultimately striving to uplift the healthcare landscape for the populations it serves.

Business Plan
IN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS I PLAN TO EXPAND MY BUSINESS SUCH THAT I WILL BE ABLE TO OFFER HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS SUCH AS PHARMACISTS, NURSE PRACTITIONERS, PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICERS, CLINICAL AND NON CLINICAL ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF THE FOLLOWING: CONTINUING EDUCATION, FACILITATION TECHNIQUES, LEADERSHIP COACHING, GENERAL CONSULTATION SERVICES, AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR REQUIRED BOARD CERTIFICATIONS/CREDENTIALS AND/OR EXAMINATIONS. I PLAN TO FOCUS ON ASSISTING NON PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, AND HEALTH CARE FACILITIES THAT SERVICE THE LGBTQIA, HIV POSITIVE, AND INDIGENT POPULATIONS IN RURAL AND/OR UNDERSERVED AREAS. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO IMPLEMENT PUBLIC HEALTH RESEARCH WITHIN THE NEXT 5 YEARS TO GAIN A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF BOTH HEALTH CARE DISPARITIES AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY DISPARITIES/EDUCATIONAL FUNDING INEQUITIES FOR HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS WHO ORIGINATE FROM THE UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS THAT THEY SEEK THE PROPER EDUCATION TO SERVE. INVESTORS SHOULD INVEST IN ME BECAUSE I AM A HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL FROM AN UNDERSERVED POPULATION WHO NOT ONLY WITNESSED SOCIOECONOMIC DISPARITIES IN MY OWN COMMUNITY; BUT ALSO DISPARITIES IN EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY AND FUNDING BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER MATRICULATING THROUGH PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL. IF I HAD ACCESS TO AN ORGANIZATION THAT WOULD ASSIST WITH FUNDING FOR MY BOARD EXAMS OR EDUCATE ME ON THE NON TRADITIONAL PATHS OF A PHARMACIST, THEN I WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER PREPARED FOR MY CURRENT CAREER PATH. IF THE LOW INCOME CLINICS THAT I WAS FORCED TO GO TO WHILE IN SCHOOL HAD BETTER TRAINED STAFF AND RESOURCES, THEN MYSELF AND MANY OF MY CLASSMATES WOULD HAVE HAD ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE THAT WAS EQUAL TO OR BETTER THAN THAT OF OUR MORE AFFLUENT CLASSMATES. MANY PHARMACY STUDENTS CAME FROM SINGLE PARENT, OR LOW-MIDDLE INCOME HOUSEHOLDS IN WHICH THE INCOME WAS TOO HIGH TO RECEIVE FEDERAL GRANTS, BUT TOO LOW TO MAINTAIN OUR BASIC NEEDS. WE DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO AFFORD TO GO TO "MID-YEAR" TO MATCH FOR RESIDENCIES. SOME OF US HAD TO WORK FULL TIME JOBS TO AFFORD OUR BILLS WHILE IN SCHOOL, WHICH CAUSED OUR GRADES TO SUFFER. HAD THERE BEEN SURVEYS OR RESEARCH TO ASSESS THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS AND NEWLY GRADUATED HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS, THESE DISPARITIES WOULD HAVE BEEN EASILY IDENTIFIED. WITH MY BUSINESS I INTEND TO HELP IDENTIFY MORE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY/FUNDING DISPARITIES, AND OFFER MY SERVICES TO CORRECT THESE ISSUES FOR STUDENTS AND HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS. I ALSO INTEND TO ASSIST RURAL AN DINTER CITY HEALH CARE CENTERS TO RAISE THEIR STANDARDS AND PERFORMANCE SO THAT THEY WILL BE PREPARED TO STAFF AND CULTIVATE THE HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS WHO HAVE RECEIVED TRAINING AND ASSISTANCE FROM MY ORGANIZATION. I SEE MY BUSINESS AS A BRIDGE TO FILL THE GAPS BETWEEN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES, EDUCATIONAL INEQUITIES FOR PROVIDERS AND STUDENT PROVIDERS, AND THE BROKEN HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS IN THESE COMMUNITIES.

Self Identified Competition
GENOA TELEPSYCHIATRY-For low-income populations, access to quality mental health services is rare. When Samir Malik spoke with safety-net clinics – public hospitals, community health centers, healthcare providers working in high-risk areas – he discovered the need was critical across the U.S. Malik, the co-founder and general manager of Genoa Telepsychiatry, sought a way to bridge the gap. “If Genoa Telepsychiatry can improve access, and as a result, help the millions of underserved receive better mental health care, we know we will have impacted lives in a meaningful way,” Malik said. (Kate Harrison- Forbes Magazine 2018) COGNOTION- The need for qualified caregivers, nursing assistants and nurses for elderly Americans is catastrophic. Through Cognotion’s digital training tools, the 60 percent of the U.S. population without a college degree is learning how to become the hero of their career. (Kate Harrison-Forbes Magazine 2018) OSMOSIS- is a medical education platform that helps soon-to-be physicians, nurses, physician assistants and other health professionals learn and retain all of the health sciences info they need to do their jobs effectively. The company offers access to a library with more than 1,300 videos, 15,000 flashcards and 8,000 case questions that cover topics like pathology, physiology, pharmacology and clinical reasoning. More than 600,000 people use the Osmosis learning platform and 1.2 million use the YouTube channel to power their clinical education. (Jack Kaufman, Mobihealthnews 2019). MY BUSINESS IS DIFFERENT FROM THESE COMPETITORS BECAUSE IT WAS DEVELOPED WITH 12 YEARS OF PHARMACY EXPERIENCE AND 3 YEARS OF PUBLIC HEALTH INFLUENCE. MY BACKGROUND HAS UNIQUELY MOLDED MY BUSINESS'S MISSION TO EDUCATE, TRAIN, SUPPORT, ASSIST, AND REWARD HEALTHCARE STUDENTS, NEWLY GRADUATED HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS, SEASONED HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS, CLINICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF OF HEALTH CARE CENTERS, PUBLIC HEALTH EMPLOYEES, AND NON PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, TO BE SUCESSFUL AND IN SYNC; SUCH THAT PATIENT HEALTHCARE WILL BE IMPROVED SIGNIFICANTLY IN UNDERSERVED, EXPLOITED, AND INDIGENT COMMUNITIES. MY FOCUS IS BEYOND THE PATIENT WITH THE INTENT THAT PROVIDERS AND FACILITIES BECOME EQUIPPED WITH THE KNOWLEDGE AND TOOLS REQUIRED TO PROPERLY CARE FOR PATIENTS.
