Coulter Contracting Inc | Application Preview
Coulter Contracting Inc. is applying for government grants to fund the hiring of additional personnel due to a rapidly growing customer base. The requested funds will help pay down existing debt and provide working capital for enhancing their digital presence through a website and social media, as well as purchasing equipment to meet the increased demand. The company aims to establish an office space and showroom to improve engagement with both current and prospective clients.
The business intends to expand its reach nationally, focusing on being a top choice for window treatment solutions in both residential and commercial markets. Currently, the company serves a client base that is 75% residential and 25% commercial, with aspirations to strengthen its commercial operations through partnerships with general contractors, developers, and public works projects.
Coulter highlights the niche nature of the window treatment industry, which offers significant opportunities tied to energy efficiency—especially in the hot climate of the DFW area. With 15 years of industry experience, the owner notes a notable lack of expertise within this profitable market segment.
While there is competition, particularly from established sole-owner businesses like Sundown Commercial Services and Lancaster and Associates, Coulter believes they hold a competitive edge. The owners of these competitors are nearing retirement without successors, potentially creating opportunities for Coulter. Additionally, expertise in installation sets Coulter apart from franchises like Made In The Shade, where owners may lack installation knowledge despite their sales skills.
In summary, Coulter Contracting Inc.'s grant application aims to support strategic growth and capitalize on unique market opportunities within the window treatment industry.

Business Plan
Coulter Contracting plans to expand nationwide as a reliable and excellent choice for any all Window treatment needs in any application. Currently the business does 75% residential and 25% commercial, the plan is to expand the commercial application through GC’s, developers and public works projects. The window treatment industry, although perhaps an obscure sounding business on its surface, is actually quite a niche market. I have worked in this industry for 15 years primarily in the DFW area and quickly realized the lack of experts in this very profitable and absolutely necessary industry as it relates to energy efficiency window treatments provide in an area of the country that gets quite hot in the spring, summer and fall months

Self Identified Competition
Most projects awarded to my company are generally exclusive (no bidding needed) however, moving into commercial, competitors would include: Sundown Commercial Services (previous employer) the owner and myself still maintain a great working relationship. Lancaster and Associates (owners and myself have a great working relationship) Made In The Shade and its franchises (I exclusively install for 3 franchises here in DFW with great working relationships) Sundown Commercial and Lancaster and Associates are both sole owner businesses, their respective owners are both in the latter stages of life with no children or family to bequeath the business to. This creates a massive window to leap through when their businesses ultimately close. Made In The Shade franchises are generally owned by women who can sell products but do not have enough knowledge to physically install them. I work with many manufacturers that also provide product to these franchises and over the years they have come to depend on my expertise to complete their projects.
