Rockford SOAR Daycare 49911 | Government Grant Application

Rockford SOAR Daycare | Application Preview

Rockford SOAR Daycare is seeking government grants to support its first year of operation within a school setting. The daycare staff are school employees, and the center currently lacks additional funding for activities like field trips. As they are expanding into two larger rooms, they require a variety of supplies, including cribs, cots, storage solutions, play centers, and educational materials such as art supplies and toys.

The daycare’s business plan anticipates that once these larger rooms are equipped, they will be able to accommodate more children, addressing a significant shortage of daycare options in the community. Being located in a K-12 school allows for convenient access for families, with the expectation of running at full capacity in compliance with DHS regulations.

Funding is critical for the daycare’s sustainability, as it cannot rely on the Rudd Rockford Marble Rock Community School District's general budget for ongoing support.

The daycare faces limited competition from in-home facilities, which are restricted in capacity and support the school-based program. Its competitive advantages include being a licensed daycare within the school, providing seamless morning drop-off and pickup for parents, and offering age-appropriate educational curricula similar to preschool programs available nearby.

  • Funding Usage

This is our first year operating under the school where we are housed. Our staff/teachers are all school employees. We do NOT have any extra income to pay for field trips, and other fun activities. We are also moving into 2 larger rooms to expand, and will need to purchase many items to accommodate those rooms- including cribs, toddler cots, rest mats, book shelves, storage shelves, play centers- like kitchens, food stands, etc, craft and art items like paint, markers, crayons, paper, glue. Many toys such as- puzzles, blocks, games, puppets, vehicles, books, stem and sensory items are needed.

  • Business Plan

Since we are moving to larger rooms within the school building this summer, we expect that once they are properly furnished with all needed furniture, shelves, toys, etc., we will be able to accept a larger enrollment over time. This will be a big blessing for our community since we have a severe shortage of daycares in our area. In addition, since we are housed at the school building, which is a one-story, air-conditioned, K-12 facility, it makes daycare very convenient for our school district families with young kids. We expect to operate at full capacity per the DHS regulations on a continual basis over the long term. This daycare is a necessity in our community and is virtually fail-proof since it is under the umbrella of the Rudd Rockford Marble Rock Community School District (RRMR CSD). But it MUST operate on its own funding because the RRMR CSD is prohibited from using its general fund to cover any funding shortage for the daycare, on a long-term basis.

  • Self Identified Competition

Our only competitors are in-home daycares who are limited to how many children they can take, AND are supportive of the school daycare. We are a DHS licensed daycare facility housed at school, and offer the convenience of morning drop-offs for parents and their children can stay safely in one building all day without worry of transport to and from school from a home sitter. We also offer age-appropriate educational programs with curriculum you would find in a preschool. The RRMR CSD also offers a preschool program which is just across the hall from the daycare rooms.
