The American Martial Arts Institute 72-1609790 | Government Grant Application

The American Martial Arts Institute | Application Preview

The American Martial Arts Institute is seeking government grants to cover operating expenses as it continues to recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite a slow and steady growth since reopening on June 8, 2020—growing from 112 members to 215 members as of March 2021—the institution faces challenges due to lingering safety concerns among the community and ongoing state restrictions affecting attendance.

The funds would help the business maintain operations until it can achieve a more sustainable level of membership. The organization has provided martial arts training since 1992, focusing not only on physical techniques but also on instilling essential life skills such as confidence, discipline, and perseverance in individuals of all ages.

While facing competition from traditional sports like baseball, soccer, and football, the institute emphasizes the unique benefits of martial arts, highlighting the individual progress and personal growth it fosters. The grant is crucial for the institute to continue its mission of shaping future leaders and contributing positively to the community.

To provide operating expenses to assist with regrowth post CoVID shutdowns. My business has been slowly and steadily re-growing however, not fast enough to meet the operating expenses while business is slowly coming back. We have exhausted all available funds available from SBA

  • Business Plan

We have a very strong community presence and have been steadily growing since we reopened on June 8th of 2020. We went from serving over 400 families in March of 2020 to reopening on June 8th with 112 members. We have since adapted to offering both in person and virtual services. As of 03/17/21 we have re-grown to 215 members. Growth is slow because people are still afraid to do public/group activities. Plus state restrictions do not allow us to operate yet, allowing us to service the numbers we need to in order to break even. The SBA loans we received and the PPP funds have allowed us to maintain our staff and pay our bills to stay open, however we have exhausted the EIDL loan money received and will need to start paying on that loan soon. Our current plan is working however I need funds to help us get back to a sustainable level. Once restrictions are lifted, I will be able to service the number of customers we need in order to sustain and thrive on our own. For now, while still faced with operating under strict restrictions, I need more time and additional funding to continue our steady re-growth. I have been servicing my community and shaping and training leaders in my community through martial arts training since 1992. We don't just teach punching and kicking and self defense. Those are just the means used to teach more valuable skills and traits, such as confidence, discipline, respect, integrity, courage, perseverance and other skills and character traits needed to be productive members of our community and society. Martial arts has become a part of American culture, with many of our youth experiencing martial arts training at some point of their lives. The lessons learned can be applied to anything we face in life from academics, to sports, to the work force and more importantly, how to interact with others. My school and business has been teaching kids, teens and adults from all walks of life, how to be better individuals and better members of our community. I need your help so we can continue to do this work, to help shape tomorrows leaders.

  • Self Identified Competition

Baseball, Soccer and football. These other sports can also teach many of the life lessons and skills we teach through martial arts, however, almost ALL martial arts schools aim to teach the skills I listed above. Members of sports teams only get these same life lessons and skills for success if the kids happen to be exposed to a great coach. Many coaches in traditional sports only have the goal of winning their games. So the value of the life lessons are not valued the same. Also, not all kids, teens or adults have the confidence to even pursue a sport or have the skills to give them opportunities to really participate. Martial Arts is NOT a team sport. Your success is determined by the work you do as an individual. We teach the value of being a part of a team and the various roles needed in finding success on a team. Martial Arts helps ALL people, the athletically gifted that excel in team sports and those that do not meet those qualities. Martial Arts can truly benefit ALL people.
