  • Business Plan

We are entering the 3rd year of our current 5 year growth plan as a youth sports organization. We had a 5 step plan that we implemented: 1 - bring all of the hockey programs under a single leadership and direction. The goal of this step was to create a culture that was consistent no matter the program the players participated in. We developed 4 governing core principles that have been our guiding north star: community inclusion, or no kid left behind, long-term athlete development, retention of people, and creating leaders today for tomorrow. These core values govern all of our decision making processes. 2- Keep our introductory programs costs as low as possible to reduce the financial barriers. 3-Use Try Hockey for Free events to introduce players and families to the sport for free. We will host this event a minimum of 3 times per year. 4-Our program will only succeed if we have quality coaching that focuses on an athlete centered approach. What does our player's need at their development age that will help them succeed as a player, and more importantly, as a person in society. 5-Be fiscally responsible. Plan for the future and be prepared, but not at the cost of pricing out great athletes that aren't as financially affluent as needed to play the sport of ice hockey. In my experience, our youth program is different than anything I have been a part of in my 10 year career in youth sports. It isn't driven by politics, or this parent that believes their child is a young prodigy and they need to change the program for them to succeed. Rather, we view every child as their own prodigy and we have to provide an opportunity for every player, because you don't know how we run our program can affect them long term. We don't segregate our elite players verse our bottom players in relation to practice time. Directly from Malcolm Gladwell's book, Outliers, success is often a product of fortunate events. Bill Gates would not have been able to code early in his life a series of fortunate events never happened. We do not believe in depriving any player the chance to become the best, so regardless of your ability, all players of the same age will practice the same amount and get the same quality of coaching. That is why people should want to affiliate their name, and assist our club financially.

  • Self Identified Competition

Other sport programs, mainly basketball, Iowa City Hockey, and wrestling during the season. Video games. We compete for the best athletes in other sports and against video games. As stated above, we focus on the development of every player regardless of ability or financial situation.
