update the facility to be more with the current times, expand our kennel,s to be able to house more pets, build a new area in order house not only cats and dogs, but exotic pets such as parrots, reptiles, and small animals. In 1985, Mrs. Susan Finter had a vision for a pet boarding and grooming facility on her 17 acre piece of property, which she also lives on. Miss Sue, as those who know her well call her, was married to Mr. Bill, who has since passed. But she never had any children of her own. Her children are her animals, ranging from cats and dogs, to more exotic pets like parrots and a capuchin monkey. Miss Sue was a tough but fair lady, who always spoke her mind. But would give the shirt off her back in an heartbeat for anyone in need, especially for ANY animal in need. For decades, the business was booming. On several occasions, local newspapers did articles on her, the business and all the good she was doing. Then because of some unfortunate circumstances out of anyone's control, like Covid-19 and Miss Sue developing dementia, business started to dwindle. Another big problem was, with the expansion of Hernando county and the population boom, many more animal boarding facilities started popping up giving people more options on where to leave their beloved pets. Our furry guests were and will always be our main priority. But that meant certain other things had to go on the back burner, specifically maintenance of the buildings and the property.  Although we are still standing and operating business safely, that will not be the case for too much longer. Miss Sues wishes are to keep her passion going even after she passes on. Even in recent years, we have continued to reach out to the community. We help the county by housing dogs when the shelter is full. We help rescues by grooming the neglected pets that come in for free or very discounted price. We have even helped local families house their pets when hurricanes have destroyed their homes. But, in order to do all this we need, money to keep the day to day operations going as well as money to do some renovations to the existing structures and property, as well as some other changes to make the business more with the current times. The staff that works for Miss Sue are not just coworkers, we are family, and want nothing more than to keep this place open and continue to serve Hernando County. That is why we are reaching out for this grant, in hopes to revamp the business and carry on Miss Sues legacy. Thank you for your time.
