CASA UPSTATE SC INC 93-4248112 | Government Grant Application

CASA UPSTATE SC INC | Application Preview

CASA Upstate SC Inc. is applying for government funding to purchase a dual-use building that will serve the local special needs and disabled adult community. The space will include a commercial kitchen and a large gathering area intended for classes and workshops focused on job readiness and life skills training. The organization plans to start with classes and meeting spaces, then expand services to include in-home support, daily living skills education, fire safety training, and eventually the development of community housing for assisted living.

The funding request is driven by a critical need in the region. Many adults with special needs are supported by aging parents, and due to statewide shortages and long waitlists—some exceeding 10,000 people—these families face a growing housing crisis. CASA Upstate aims to fill this gap in Pickens County and surrounding areas in South Carolina, where access to services is limited and under-resourced.

While other organizations operate in the region, their scope is either more limited or better funded by large sponsors. CASA Upstate seeks to serve a broader range of individuals without restrictions and to provide alternatives for families who currently have few or no options. Their lack of high-profile backing or media exposure makes government support critical to launching and sustaining their inclusive services.

  • Business Plan

Start with meeting space, classes. Add in home supports and Daily living skills classes, add fire safety and build or buy community homes for assisted living. We live in a typically underserved region and statewide waiting lists for aging adults in care of aging parents has caused a housing crisis. There are SN adults in Pickens County SC alone with roughly being served. There are 5 other counties in our proximity here in the Upstate region in the same predicament.

  • Self Identified Competition

    1. Mary Sunshine House, Central SC-serve autistic adults only 2.Barbara Stone Foundation, Greenville SC-serve similar population but have large corporate sponsors. 3. ABLE SC-Wonderful organization-powerful sponsors We don't limit who we would serve. Aging parents have no choices for care for their disabled children here. Often they are on waiting lists of well over 10,000 clients and have no say where an opening might be in the entire state. We have little political power and are a specific group that doesn't get attention until a music or movie star has a special needs child that has issues we face every day without wealth and fame. Large sponsors love the media attention and tax write off, so they choose well established organizations with more visibility to gain media coverage.
