Rise and Shine, Inc | Application Preview
Rise and Shine, Inc. is applying for government funding to support its job training program aimed at individuals facing chronic unemployment and other significant barriers to employment. Requested funds will go toward program costs, staff salaries, transportation services, and equipment.
The organization offers an intensive 12-week training course for 20 students at a time, and is launching a production facility to create both retail and wholesale revenue streams. This initiative is designed to employ students while generating funds that will offset program expenses, with a goal of becoming financially self-sustaining by 2029.
Since its inception, the program has trained 110 people with a 75% employment success rate. Rise and Shine differentiates itself from competitors through its comprehensive support model: serving a diverse population including veterans, individuals in recovery, people reentering from incarceration, and young adults aging out of foster care. The program reduces stress by focusing on baking—a field that offers stable hours and entrepreneurial potential—and provides free transportation and a $100 weekly student stipend. This holistic approach helps participants transition into stable, independent employment more effectively.

Self Identified Competition
1)Light House Bistro serving people experiencing homelessness with culinary training and employment. 2)Anne Arundel Community College work force training programs. 3)MD Re-entry Resource Center 1) We serve a wide spectrum of demographics including people experiencing homelessness, veterans, those in addiction recovery, people formerly incarcerated, youth aging out of foster care and single mothers in poverty. The baking business is less urgent than the restaurant business and less stressful for people coming out of crisis. 2) We provide transportation to and from the program at no cost to the students and we pay them a stipend of $100 per week to help offset their living expenses. Our schedule is daily from 9-4:30 for only a 12 week intensive training. 3) Again we believe a wide variety of student background and circumstances better replicates what they will experience in the workplace. The baking industry provides great opportunities for living wages and entrepreneurial avenues.
