Women Women | Government Grant Application

Women | Application Preview

This grant application is from a women-led organization seeking government funding to support its operations, including a shelter, food pantry, clothing closet, and warehouse. The organization addresses domestic violence and the cycle of abuse through a broad range of services, such as emergency housing (Frieda's Healing Center and Ellen's Place), support groups for perpetrators (Men of Compassion), youth education programs, and practical support for survivors including legal aid and basic needs (Hope Center).

Their five-year business plan focuses on improving internal operations, expanding community involvement, strengthening service delivery, and ensuring long-term sustainability through strategy-driven growth and diversified funding sources.

The organization emphasizes its unique, faith-inclusive approach that speaks to a critical yet underserved demographic—individuals in religious homes affected by abuse. While not a religious entity, they acknowledge that many survivors in faith communities face unique barriers. They work with both secular and religious institutions to help create protective systems and accountability structures.

They distinguish themselves from larger, city-based competitors by operating in a smaller, rural region with fewer services available, giving them a vital role in responding to domestic violence locally. Their work not only supports survivors but also contributes to safer, healthier communities, making the case that funding their mission yields both immediate and long-term social returns.

  • Self Identified Competition

Our top competitors are located in the largest city in the county. They are: 1. YWCA 2. Passages 3. Mary's House We are located in a smaller city surrounded by rural communities We are different from competitors in that we also address domestic violence and the intergenerational cycle of abuse from a faith based perspective. We are not a religious organization. But statistics indicate that there is just as much abuse in Christian/Religious homes as there is in Secular homes. “Religion is NOT a deterrent...there is just as much abuse (spousal, child and sexual abuse) in Christian homes as in non-Christian homes." -Lee Bowker, “Religious Victims and Their Religious Leaders: Services Delivered to One Thousand Battered Women by the Clergy.” in Abuse and Religion, 230-31. “People with strong religious beliefs stay longer in abusive relationships because it gets mixed up with their faith beliefs.” -(Dr. Nancy Nason-Clark, 10/07/2006, “When Terror Strikes the Christian Home”; Keynote Address at The Awakening Conference, Ft. Lauderdale, FL.) Our organization is therefore a first-line response to ending violence. We consult with, and assist both secular and religious organizations to establish policies and procedures that can help prevent abuse, protect victims, and hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
