Celestial Herbals | Application Preview
Celestial Herbals is applying for government grants to support their startup in the eco-friendly beauty industry. The funding will be used to purchase sustainable packaging and provide essential startup funds for the first year.
The business plan includes selling products at local farmers markets, establishing partnerships with at least three retail shops between Burlington and Stowe, and launching online sales. The goal is to double these sales channels each year, aiming for significant online revenue by the fifth year.
Funding approval is justified by the company’s commitment to sustainability, local sourcing, and being women-owned. Celestial Herbals emphasizes transparency in its production process, educating consumers about local ecosystems while promoting wellness. The venture is expected to benefit the Vermont economy and enhance the appreciation of local plants and agriculture.
In terms of competition, Celestial Herbals faces established brands like Ilia and Luna Roots Magick. While Ilia is a recognized name in clean beauty, Celestial Herbals plans to differentiate itself by marketing as a luxury brand with competitive prices. Unlike Luna Roots, which targets a niche audience with a whimsical aesthetic, Celestial Herbals intends to appeal to a broader market seeking to eliminate harmful chemicals from their beauty routines.

Business Plan
Within the first year we plan to sell at at least one farmers market, sell at at least three brick and mortar shops between Burlington and Stowe, and begin to sell online. We hope to double these each year moving into the 5th year. Hopefully channeling most our revenue into online profit. Our product is sustainable, locally sourced and women owned. Celestial Herbals is coming into the new era of the beauty industry with transparency every step of the way, from harvest to consumer. While buying this product consumers learn about the importance of their local ecosystems while tending to their own bodies. It stimulates the local Vermont economy fiscally, while enriching the use of plant fauna and agriculture.

Self Identified Competition
Ilia and Luna Roots Magick. Ilia is a more well known brand with "clean" beauty products. Although their products are not as "clean" as Luna Roots, their packaging and marketing strategy is similar to what I would aim for. Luna Roots is in southern vermont, with a substantial following. She is the only person I know that is doing anything remotely similar to what I am aiming for and is close to my proximity. She also makes herbally infused makeup. My background and my path to finding herbalism is different to hers. My product will be marketed more as a luxury brand but with competitive prices. Her work market also focuses more towards a "fairy" "witch" type group of people, where as mine is bridging the gap between those that know about herbalism and those that are trying to weed out (no pun intended) any toxic chemicals in their beauty routine.
