Davis Gunsmithing 0000000 | Government Grant Application

Davis Gunsmithing | Application Preview

Davis Gunsmithing is applying for a government grant to cover startup expenses for launching a firearms-related business. Requested funding will be used for essential tools, machinery, security systems, parts, marketing, building upgrades, insurance, and legal formation costs.

The business will begin by offering firearms repair, customization, deep cleaning, marksmanship instruction, and firearm transfers. The owner's strategy focuses on building a local customer base in a community with no existing gunsmith services. Over the next five years, the goal is to move from a home-based operation to a retail storefront, expand into firearm and tactical gear sales, and hire additional employees. The long-term plan also includes seeking contracts with city and county agencies.

Approval is sought on the basis that the business will fill an unmet need in the area, as the nearest gunsmith is located in the next county. Initially, there are no direct local competitors. Future competition may come from pawn shops and outdoor stores, but they do not offer gunsmith services or specialize in tactical equipment. The applicant's professional training in firearms technology and status as a military veteran also offer additional credibility and differentiation.

  • Business Plan

As there is no compensation in my area of industry, I plan to build a strong client base in my community. I will start out keeping it simple with firearms repairs, customization to firearm hardware, custom deep cleaning of firearms, marksmanship instruction, and firearm transfers. It is my hope over the next few years to grow through clientele, and I would like to get a few contracts with both city and county government offices. By the end of 5 years I plan on being out of my house and into a storefront where I can offer firearm sales as well as sales of tactical equipment. At that time I would also plan on hiring some employees as well. I can offer a service to my community that is not available locally. The next closest gunsmith to my area is in the next county.

  • Self Identified Competition

Starting out, I will have no competitors as there are not any gunsmiths inside my town or county. When I grow to the point of selling firearms I will have competition with Cash America Pawn, and Downhome Outdoor Addiction. My competitors do not offer any gunsmithing services, and when I grow to firearm sales, they will not offer tactical gear and equipment as I will. Also, they do not have a degree in Science of Firearms Technology like I do; as I am an honor grad from Sonoran Desert Institute. They also are not veterans like I am.
