Serenity Church Terrell, dba Serenity Corner 81-239-2776 | Government Grant Application

Serenity Church Terrell, dba Serenity Corner | Application Preview

Serenity Church Terrell, under the name Serenity Corner, is seeking government grants to support its expansion efforts. The organization currently operates in a space under 500 square feet and aims to move to a larger building equipped with shower and laundry facilities, classroom space for educational and vocational training, and staff for ongoing operations.

Their business plan focuses on forming partnerships with local churches and businesses to create sustainable revenue streams while actively increasing volunteer involvement and securing material donations. Once a new facility is established, Serenity Corner intends to develop a business model aimed at employing homeless individuals and generating funds to support its mission.

The need for funding is underscored by the positive impact Serenity Corner has had in Terrell, where it has successfully helped individuals facing addiction and homelessness to achieve recovery, gain employment, and stabilize their lives. The organization’s work is even more crucial given the rise in homelessness and addiction due to the economic downturn and the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In terms of competition, there are limited resources in the area specifically designed to assist the homeless and those battling addiction. Existing services, such as a food pantry, often require proof of residence, excluding many who need help. Other shelters are located in different towns, making them inaccessible to the local population Serenity Corner serves.

What sets Serenity Corner apart is its non-denominational, faith-based approach that emphasizes compassionate, non-judgmental service. A coalition of local churches collaborates with Serenity to provide essential services like meals and support, making the organization a vital resource for those marginalized in the community.

  • Funding Usage

Serenity Corner needs to expand to a larger building (current location is less than 500 sq ft), to include shower and laundry machines, classroom space for educational life and vocational training, as well as part- or full-time personnel to staff the facility.

  • Business Plan

We are actively working on partnering with local churches and businesses to create sustainable income streams, as well as growing our volunteer base to focus on increasing material donations and grant applications. Once a new building is secured, outfitted and staffed, the long term goal is to create a business model that focuses on providing employment for the homeless as well as creating a revenue stream to fund the mission. The Serenity Corner mission is making a difference in Terrell. We have seen numerous success stories where people struggling with addiction, homelessness and hopelessness have been able to get clean, find a hopeful path in life, find work, and get off the streets. With the economic depression and the impacts of Covid-19 homelessness and addiction have been increasing. It takes small local non-profit efforts to tackle these real, daily issues and Serenity has a growing track record of helping the people most impacted.

  • Self Identified Competition

There are very few resources in this geographic area focused on helping the homeless or those struggling with addiction. While there is a food pantry in town, it caters to low income people with homes, requiring proof of residence to access services. The county seat has a non-profit women's shelter, and there is a non-profit children's shelter there as well, but both are out of reach of unhoused Terrell residents and don't provide resources to the majority male population that we work with. Serenity Corner is a non-denominational faith-based mission that seeks to demonstrate spiritual love through non-judgmental service to the most over-looked segment of our community. We are doing our best to meet the physical and practical needs of our homeless brothers and sisters, so they can focus on healing and growing and becoming as self-reliant as possible. We have a coalition of unrelated churches working with Serenity to provide hot meals, volunteers and willing ears to listen to needs of the folks we service.
