Lonis Flooring | Application Preview
Lonis Flooring is seeking government grants to support its efforts to establish a more independent flooring business. The funding will primarily be used for advertising to attract clients directly, moving away from subcontracting work. The owner, a woman in the trades, emphasizes the challenges she faces in a predominately male industry, including the need for a reliable work truck due to the old one being unusable.
The business plan involves taking over accounts from a retiring contractor, leveraging established relationships within the construction community. The owner plans to manage the business from a home office while actively participating in fieldwork alongside potential employees.
The grant application highlights the unique position of being a small, woman-owned business, committed to quality and reliability in a demanding field. The owner acknowledges the competitive nature of the industry, where some competitors offer lower pricing, but stands out through dedication to craftsmanship. She aims to build a reputable business that is not only sustainable but also recognized for its quality work, aspiring to earn respect and recognition in the community for her tile installations.

Funding Usage
Plan on investing in advertising to get my own work and not be a subcontractor. It's hard being a woman in the trades. I also need a new work truck because the other one was rusted out.

Business Plan
I would love to take the accounts of my former contractor since he is retiring and all the builders know me. I would like to get a few employees to work and I can run the business and contracts from a home office while also being in the field working along side employees. I am a small woman owned business, I work hard and am reliable. There are not many women in construction because it's a man's world and it is hard, physical, exhausting labor. I have to deal with alot of angry guys that do not like seeing a woman work in construction, also many perverts. But I love my career and take pride in building something beautiful for homeowners now and in the future years. The asthetics of laying tile is an art and I enjoy being part of it.

Self Identified Competition
There are a few groups that offer work at lower prices which helps keep prices competitive. Right now there is so much construction work that tilers are too busy to take on other work. It's difficult for me because I am a woman and people doubt me because of that, until they see my work. I take pride in my work. I want a strong business that grows, not just a flyby company that only sticks around for a couple years doing cheap, lazy work. I want a reputation in my community. I want people to see me out and say "wow, that tile girl did a great job!"
