Speech Therapy for SE Oklahoma | Application Preview
The grant application from Speech Therapy for SE Oklahoma outlines plans for utilizing funding to cover essential startup costs needed to provide crucial therapy services in the community. The requested funds of $15,000 would be directed toward rental expenses, standardized testing and hearing screening tools, therapy materials, documentation tools, marketing, and parent education resources. Additional funding would enable the development of extra space to accommodate more pediatric patients and expand services to include occupational therapy.
The business plan involves hiring more therapy providers to enhance service availability and create full-time employment opportunities focused on pediatric therapy. A specific site in Valliant, OK, is identified for development to create a welcoming environment for families, supporting the treatment of developmental delays while also providing educational resources for parents.
The need for funding is emphasized by the therapist-owned nature of the business, which aims to deliver high-quality pediatric therapy services. The approach emphasizes family communication, community engagement, and educational outreach, while also establishing desirable job opportunities for various therapy professionals. The business seeks to address the service gap for seniors in the community by collaborating with home health and hospice services to deliver essential support.
Regarding competition, the application notes existing speech therapy services provided by the Choctaw Nation and McCurtain Memorial Outpatient Clinic. However, these facilities face limitations in access and staffing, often requiring families to travel significant distances for care.
The competitive edge lies in the ability of a small, therapist-owned business to better cater to local families. By fostering consistent parent involvement, promoting collaboration among staff, and striving for a positive work-life balance for therapists, Speech Therapy for SE Oklahoma aims to fill the current gaps in therapy services. Overall, the funding would play a pivotal role in allowing the business to meet community needs more effectively and efficiently.

Funding Usage
Funding could most optimally be utilized to continue to cover the startup costs in order to provide much needed therapy services to our community. This would include rental expenses, cost of standardized testing and hearing screening tools, therapy materials, documentation tools, marketing tools and parent education materials. Additional funding beyond 15,000 could be utilized to develop additional floorspace to take on more pediatric patients and be able to provide occupational therapy services as well.

Business Plan
I intend to hire additional therapy providers to better serve the community with Speech Therapy services and create more full-time jobs to offer therapy for pediatrics. I would also like to be able to add Occupational Therapy services. There is a space in Valliant, OK that needs to be developed and could serve a greater number of clients in a family-friendly environment to treat delays and provide parent education. As a therapist-owned business, I intend to offer high quality pediatric therapy services that accommodate to parents, provide community and family education and communication with the families in mind, and create desirable jobs for SLPs, OTs, COTAs, and potentially SLPAs. I also intend to contract with home health and hospice companies to serve our geriatric community with otherwise forgotten about services due to the lack of resources and available therapists in our area.

Self Identified Competition
Choctaw Nation offers speech therapy in Hugo and Idabel, OK--but only to individuals who qualify for their services. McCurtain Memorial Outpatient Clinic offers speech therapy physical therapy and occupational therapy to all ages but they struggle to stay staffed in the ST department and her caseload is currently full. MMH is located in Idabel, 30 minutes away. Families in my area currently have to drive a minimum of 30 minutes for therapy 1-2x/week. The next closest facility is in Paris, TX, almost an hour away. As a therapist-owned speech therapy business in a rural part of SE Oklahoma, our patients can better be served in a small business like Speech Therapy for SE Oklahoma. I am able to develop a business model that meets the needs of both the families and children with developmental delays and disorders that affect communication but also the therapists and their families. I intend to provide consistent parent education, resources and involvement in therapy, weekly collaboration among team members and promote a positive work-life balance for therapists and their own families. There is a major gap in therapists' work and current compensation and a smaller business model like Speech Therapy for SE Oklahoma can help bridge that gap.
