Nierman Cattle Company 83-4129696 | Government Grant Application

Nierman Cattle Company | Application Preview

Nierman Cattle Company is seeking government grants to support the development of their farm operations. They have received partial funding from the Farm Service Agency for a new 100 head self-containment building for their cattle but need additional funds due to rising material costs. The grant would also help upgrade an existing 75-year-old barn, which requires electrical work and roof repairs, as well as general maintenance.

Additionally, they aim to finance a full-time salary for their son, who recently joined the family business, until the cattle can generate sufficient income to sustain that salary. The company plans to expand its herd to 150 head, focusing on breeding and selling show stock, embryos, and embryo flushes. They are also enhancing their marketing strategies to attract more customers through social media and merchandise sales.

The Nierman family has deep farming roots and prioritizes staying on the farm together. They currently juggle off-farm jobs to support the business but recognize the need for full-time personnel to manage the demands of calving, breeding, and livestock care. With the right funding, they believe they can improve operations and eventually generate enough income from their cattle to cover farm expenses and salaries.

In terms of competition, local families also raise cattle, with some diversifying into other businesses. However, Nierman Cattle Company distinguishes itself by offering high-quality animals and ongoing support and advice to customers regarding animal care and preparation for shows. This commitment to customer service enhances their competitive edge in the market.

  • Funding Usage

We have approval to build a 100 head self containment building for our cattle. We have partial funding through the Farm Service Agency. We are covering the cost of the rest of the building. With the cos of materials increasing, we are looing to cover some additional costs of the barn. We also have a 75 year old barn that needs an electrical upgrade and roof repairs with general maintenance . We would also like to have funding enough to pay a salary to our son to stay and work on the farm full time until the cattle can generate enough income to maintain his salary . We have some general repair and maintenance to fix and repair some stalls that we now have. We also need to purchase a skid steer for manure removal in the barn.

  • Business Plan

We are in the process of acquiring more cows for our herd. And with that we have plans to build a 100 head containment building for the cows and calves to be held in during calving seasons. Through raising our own replacement heifers, buying bred heifers and buying receip cows to put our own embryos in, we plan on growing our herd to up to 150 head of cattle. We sell show stock, embryos, and embryo flushes from the stock we have now. We are expanding our marketing program to reach more customer via social media, T shirt/sweatshirt sales, and word of mouth from currant customers. We are your typical Midwestern family that has its roots in farming for many generations. We would love to be able to have the ability to stay on the farm! My son has recently joined my husband and I in our business and will be getting married soon. We would like to be able to maintain the farm and cows with a little more efficiency. We all have off the farm jobs to support what we do. We are nearing the point, that if we want to run our business the way it needs to be run, we will need someone around the farm full time. Between calving seasons, breeding seasons, feedings, and maintaining the show cattle its takes all of us as it is. We have a goal of getting our cattle herd to the point that the income that they generate will maintain expenses on the farm. That would include a salary for someone to be on the farm full time. To do all of the above we just need some help getting there.

  • Self Identified Competition

we have a few families that also raise cattle around our area. 1. The first family actually has multiple businesses that they maintain. One is farming, a cleaning supply business, and an reproduction facility. 2. The second family is a very successful family in the show industry. They also maintain a cattle heard sell alot of show animals, and a small hay business. 3 The last family is also very successful in the show ring. They maintain a small heard and also have a large trailer sales business they maintain. They do embryo work as well as sell club calves. We not only take pride in selling you a quality animal but we also are willing to help answer any questions. Such as feeding advice, grooming, and care for your animals that you get from us. If you buy a show animal from us we also will help you get that animal show ready.
