Time 2 Thrive, LLC 1353822 | Government Grant Application

Time 2 Thrive, LLC | Application Preview

Time 2 Thrive, LLC is seeking a government grant totaling $10,000 to expand its services for healing complex trauma with a focus on low-income individuals and estranged parents. The proposed funding will cover:

- NARM (NeuroAffective Relational Model) online training for $1,599. - Limited free online coaching sessions for low-income individuals, potentially accommodating up to eight participants over 13 or 26 weeks for $5,200. - Printing self-created coaching manuals for clients at a cost of $1,000. - Advertising subsidies totaling $2,201.

The business plan outlines a five-year strategy to grow the client base through social media engagement and a weekly podcast. The owner has already seen success with an Instagram account linked to the podcast and an online Meetup group for estranged parents that has grown from one member to over 200 in six months. To enhance service quality, continuous professional development in family estrangement and trauma will be pursued.

Supporting the need for funding, the application cites various statistics indicating rising psychological distress among U.S. adults, particularly among low-income individuals and younger adults. Research highlights a national mental health crisis exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and growing issues of family estrangement.

In terms of competition, Time 2 Thrive, LLC differentiates itself from government agencies, online support groups, and psychologists through its unique approach. Clients have reported long wait times and inadequate support from government services, while online groups lack professional therapy. Many psychologists also lack the lived experience of estrangement, which clients find crucial in their healing journey.

The owner’s personal experience as an estranged parent and her cultural perspective are positioned as vital advantages in providing empathetic and relevant coaching, contrasting sharply with the more traditional backgrounds of most competitors.

  • Business Plan

Over the next 5 years, I plan to expand my client base and my areas of expertise. I will expand my number of clients using social media and my weekly podcast. Currently, I have an Instagram account that advertises the name of my podcast, and the account brings in viewers as evidenced by the comments posted to my Instagram account. I also created and host an online group for estranged parents on the Meetup platform, which now has over 200 members. Just six months ago, I was the sole member. Several online members have requested my coaching services. Also, professional development is both a want and a need for me as a personal development coach. I will continue to increase my knowledge base in the field of family estrangement and trauma. As the sole provider of services for my company, I plan to monitor the growth of my business closely since there is a point at which “more” is not always better. I want to expand to the extent that I can offer both supportive and state-of-the-art coaching services. The following data and statistics are from experts and expert organizations, and they provide evidence for investors that my coaching services for low-income and/or estranged parents are critical. ~Pew Research Center. March 16, 2021 (21%) of U.S. adults are experiencing high levels of psychological distress (32%) of adults ages 18 to 29 are experiencing high levels of psychological distress (32%) of those with lower family incomes are experiencing high levels of psychological distress ~American Psychological Association (APA) Article: A National Mental Health Crisis. April 1, 2021 “A survey conducted Jan. 21–25 by the Harris Poll on behalf of APA found that stress in the United States is the highest it has been since early in the pandemic.” ~American Medical Association (AMA). April 16, 2021 “Nearly four in 10 Americans say that worry and stress related to the threat of COVID-19 has played a negative role in their mental health, according to a health tracking poll from Kaiser Family Foundation.” ~The Atlantic a Shift in American Family Values Is Fueling Estrangement. January 10, 2021 “Studies on parental estrangement have grown rapidly in the past decade, perhaps reflecting the increasing number of families who are affected.”

  • Self Identified Competition

My top 3 competitors are as follows: 1. Government agencies that provide mental health assistance to low-income families Clients have shared that it took months before someone from a government agency was actually assigned to them. Low-income clients are also assigned interns who are not fully certified or qualified. 2. Online support groups Online groups can be very helpful as one outlet for healing. Groups allow distressed individuals to not feel alone. However, groups tend to be peer-driven and do not provide therapy. 3. Many mental health workers Many psychologists work with parents who are estranged from their adult sons and/or daughters. However, clients share with me that some psychologists lack both training and the lived experience of estrangement. This void has led to parents being misdirected by listening to advice that further damaged the relationship. Many of my online Meetup parent members have given up on degreed “experts” because of their lack of experience in the unfamiliar territory of estrangement. Until family estrangement becomes a field of study in school, a lived experience with estrangement will be more highly valued by those seeking counseling. As a woman of color who lived the life of an estranged parent, I offer the knowledge, compassion, and understanding that cannot compare with most of my competitors.
