Partners for Healthy Students Partners for Healthy Students | Government Grant Application

Partners for Healthy Students | Application Preview

Partners for Healthy Students is applying for government grants to support students and families in need during the holiday season. The funding will be used to help cover the costs of toiletries, household items, clothing, and food, particularly in the wake of increased challenges due to Covid-19. The organization collaborates with Title 1 schools and counselors in the North Clackamas School District to provide much-needed assistance.

The business plan outlines a two-year strategy to organize support by school attendance areas, making it easier for families to access resources. In Years 3 and 4, they aim to establish food pantries in local high schools to provide food for students facing food insecurity, with plans to expand to middle schools in the future. Year 5 will focus on creating clothing closets in each high school.

This initiative started over two decades ago with student involvement from Clackamas High School's Key Club, which has since evolved into a larger program that requires external funding to sustain its growth. Unlike other organizations like the Boys and Girls Club, Lions, and Elks, Partners for Healthy Students has a unique foundation rooted in student leadership and a commitment to serving all students and families, regardless of age. Their comprehensive assistance includes not only gifts but also practical items like microwaves and vacuums to support healthy living environments. They ensure that no family is turned away and actively seek private sponsors if funding runs low. The goal is to broaden their outreach to address food insecurity among all students.

  • Funding Usage

We are seeking funding to help students and families purchases toiletry items, household items, clothing and food during the holidays. We believe because of Covid the need will continue to grow during the 2021-22 school year. We are currently working with several Title 1 schools and marginalized families. We work with the counselors in the North Clackamas School district to provide support during the holidays. We are also hoping to fund food pantries at each of the local high schools so that student with food insecurities can have a place to get food for weekends and holidays.

  • Business Plan

This year we are organizing the schools by attendance areas to make it more accessible for people to get the items they need. This is a two year plan. Year 3 and 4 we plan to get the food pantries up and running at the high schools. We hope to also start the planning to get the food pantries at the middle schools in the district. Year 5 we hope to start look at a clothing closet at each HS. This project originated with students at Clackamas High School Key Club. It was student planned, organized and implemented 24 years ago. The students do the majority of the work to make this even happen at the 4 sites we have the holiday giving program at in our district. It has currently grown to a level that the students can't fund raise enough money to sustain this program. With the help of the Key Club advisor , alumni from the Key Club and myself we took over Partners for Healthy Students to have a way to fundraise enough revenue to support the growth of this project and the students and families it impacts. We also NEVER turn a family away.

  • Self Identified Competition

Boys and Girls club, Lion's and Elk's and the Wichita Center are three organizations that do a winter holiday program. We partner and work with all of them to make sure that ALL students and families who need support during the holidays get assistance. The difference in our program is it was founded by a group of students and has been and will be run by high school key club members in our district. The other difference is that we provide help to all students no matter their age. Currently some of the programs only help with gifts for students under 13 years of age. We also provide toiletries and household items that they need. We purchase microwaves, toaster, vacuums etc. Whatever the families need to help create a healthy environment for our students. We never turn a family away. If we are out of funding we try to find a private sponsor to adopt the family. We also have a vision to expand what we are doing so that we can provide support to all students who have food insecurities.
