Pookie's Gourmet Popcorn 81-5395684 | Government Grant Application

Pookie's Gourmet Popcorn | Application Preview

Pookie's Gourmet Popcorn is seeking government grant funding to recover from significant losses caused by changes to city infrastructure and the impact of the pandemic. Last year, a new street island and the reduction of the driveway led to a 40% drop in business. Since relocating in January 2020, the business was on the upswing when the pandemic hit, making additional funding crucial for expenses like signage and kitchen upgrades.

The business plan focuses on the potential for growth at the new location, with plans to introduce fresh-made fudge for local and online sales. The owner emphasizes the commitment to community engagement and the joy the business brings to customers, highlighting a strong desire for long-term success.

Pookie's faces minimal local competition, with no direct rivals within a 22-mile radius and the closure of a nearby candy competitor. The owner's passion for the business and a dedicated family team contribute to a positive shopping experience, reinforcing confidence in a rebound in profitability if they receive the necessary support.

  • Funding Usage

We struggled last year after the city changed the street in front of our store adding an island where a turning lane was. They also removed a large part of our driveway. Traffic issues took about 40% of our business. In Jan 2020, we moved to a wonderful new location and were just getting rolling good when the pandemic arrived. We need help with covering some expenses for the new location such signs and kitchen upgrades.

  • Business Plan

We believe our new location is going to make our business boom if we can last out this pandemic bump. We are also about to begin selling fresh made fudge both locally and online. I tried a few different businesses before I started this one and decided to go "all in". Its a fun business and the community loves it. It just makes people happy. We do all we can to give back to the community and we want to do everything we can be successful long-term.

  • Self Identified Competition

We don't really have any direct competitors locally. There are a couple of other popcorn shops around but none within 22 miles or so. Our biggest candy competitor (Browns Buffet) in Benton just announced they are closing after 47 years. I love my business. It is my baby and I love making my customers happy. We were doing extremely well before our traffic issues came up (just as we were becoming profitable) and we know we can do great again. It is a family business and we all work together to make it a great place to shop.
