Filtered Lens Landscaping | Application Preview
Filtered Lens Landscaping is applying for government grants to enhance its operations by acquiring essential equipment and supporting ongoing expenses. The funding will be directed towards purchasing a commercial-grade lawn mower with a 58-inch cutting width, which will help secure local government and commercial contracts. Additionally, a new trailer is needed to optimize the transport of multiple lawn mowers, allowing crews to operate more efficiently. Remaining funds will assist with payroll and administrative costs, such as tax preparation.
The business plan focuses on obtaining contracts from local governments and businesses while leveraging effective marketing strategies that have already generated revenue. The goal is to maintain the current workforce and invest in their training and development to enhance their independence.
The application emphasizes the applicant’s background, highlighting eight years of military service with significant responsibilities, followed by experience as a police officer. Transitioning to full-time business ownership was driven by a desire for stability for his family. This business has become his main income source, and he aims to channel the same dedication he demonstrated in previous roles into its growth.
In terms of competition, Filtered Lens Landscaping faces established firms like Basnight Land & Lawn, Jack Frost Landscaping, and Brightview Landscaping, which possess greater resources. However, the applicant is positioned advantageously due to lower overhead costs, particularly in labor. The recent rise in labor costs due to the pandemic allows his small business to offer competitive pricing while adopting innovative technologies to scale operations effectively.

Business Plan
Accumulating contracts from local government and businesses while also continuing the marketing strategies that have generating current revues. Maintaining the labor force I currently have while investing in their training and development to increase their autonomy. I spent eight years in the Navy, deploying three times, and holding responsibly over dozens of people and millions of dollars of government assets. After the Navy I spent about a year and a half as a police officer, desiring grater stability for my family I resigned to operate my business full time. My business it my primary from of income and the same passion I focused towards previous careers I can now direct towards growing this business to provide for my growing family.

Self Identified Competition
Basnight Land & Lawn, Jack Frost Landscaping, and Brightview Landscaping are well established companies with substantially grater capabilities than me in labor and equipment. However, the edge that I now posses against them is the significantly lower overhead in the form of labor force. Since the pandemic, labor costs have increased will over 20%. This present an advantage for small businesses like mine to offer lower and just as responsible price offers to customers while developing new and creative ways to scale using constantly improving technologies.
